Duties and Responsibilities
(**Denotes Essential Functions)
- **Provide primary instructional design on assigned projects that support development of courses including but not limited to: analysis of learning objectives and department course program and/or accreditation requirements; visual and navigation design.
- **Plan and execute work plans to facilitate creation of distance-delivered courses and multimedia components with emphasis on sound instructional design.
- **Collaborate with other UH personnel for effectiveness and efficiency of team projects: attend meetings present ideas test products and processes with end users and train users.
- **Edit content in various formats including text audio video and multimedia depending on client requests when producing courses and/or changing courses.
- **Serve as liaison between faculty and staff to ensure completion of the final product.
- **Develop strategic timeline for team assignments monitor timelines throughout projects and take appropriate corrective actions to ensure that deadlines are met.
- **Assist with the research and selection of OER and other zero cost to students content: review and analyze related literature; recommend instructional strategies assign multimedia development projects where open content is unavailable.
- **Work with faculty to identify and fix bugs during beta release and retest final products.
- **Assist with the development and maintenance of processes documents and procedures providing administrative and managerial support to improve UHs effectiveness and efficiency in designing online programs and courses.
- **Provide project management support for complex web and instructional projects that include changing requirements iteration and multiple stakeholders.
- **Plan and execute work plans for creation of distance-delivered courses and multimedia components emphasizing effective and sustainable instructional designs.
- **Provide consultation to other instructional designers providing feedback guidance and suggestions for improvement.
- **Coordinate the efforts of students and/or graduate assistants maximizing their contributions to projects and efficient project completions.
- **Research and test applications to support teaching and learning.
- **Keep abreast of advances in information technology and assess the feasibility of incorporating into project plan.
- **Assist in building a strong organizational culture including facilitating effective teamwork and generating strategies for positive team morale and motivation.

Minimum Qualifications
Education and Professional Work Experience
- Possession of a pertinent baccalaureate educational degree in Management Information Systems Computer Science Instructional Technology Learning Design & Technology or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional information technology experience with responsibilities for Instructional Technology and Project Management of which 2 years of the experience must have been comparable in scope and complexity to the next lower payband in the University of Hawaii broadband system; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
- Considerable working knowledge of Instructional Technology and Distance Learning as demonstrated by the broad knowledge and understanding of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving information technology concepts principles and methodologies.
- Considerable working knowledge and understanding of the broad technology systems hardware and software associated with Instructional Technology and Distance Learning.
- Demonstrated ability to recognize a wide range of intricate problems use reasoning and logic to determine accurate causes and apply principles and practices to determine evaluation integrate and implement practical and thorough solutions in an effective and timely manner.
- Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
- Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team leaders and members and individuals.
- If applicable for supervisory work demonstrated ability to lead subordinates manage work priorities and projects and manage employee relations.
Supplemental Minimum Qualifications
- Demonstrated knowledge of learning theory educational technology and instructional design principles.
- Demonstrated ability to strategically select instructional methods based on audience and content analyses.
- Academic coursework in instructional design.
- Intermediate experience in managing instructional design projects including using project management software.
- Ability to work a variable work schedule; and work outside normally scheduled work hours including day night weekend and/or holiday hours as directed.
Desirable Qualifications
- Masters degree in Learning Design & Technology from an accredited college or university or equivalent.
- Experience working with faculty in higher education on developing online course and programs. Experience designing courses for Brightspace Sakai and WordPress.
- Experience designing courses in a variety of content areas.
- Experience with instructional design for workforce development training or career and technical education courses and programs.
- Experience with instructional design for hands-on experiential learning activities.
- Experience working with AI tools to improve instructional design and personal productivity. Familiarity with ethics implications and trends of AI.
