Description

The Coordinator will design cultivate and implement initiatives that promote holistic student development with a view towards retention graduation and post-graduate success. The Coordinator will promote a better sense of belonging for all students by creating educational content hosting events that promote student welfare and a sense of belonging facilitate developmental opportunities and engagement initiatives for at-risk and underrepresented students manage and teach the Colleges Living Learning Community oversee student clubs and organizations and provide guidance for recruiting a diverse student body. The Coordinator will collaborate with personnel throughout the Deans office the Herbert College of Agriculture the University of Tennessee Institute of Agriculture (UTIA) and the University of Tennessee Knoxville to help establish a campus culture that continuously promotes awareness respect and inclusion.



Responsibilities

Management of the Colleges Living Learning Community (LLC)

  • Promote the LLC to recruit prospective students
  • Coordinate housing
  • Use defined budget to support stellar learning and engagement activities
  • Develop and provide educational content including the AGNR 103 course and related on- and off-campus activities

Develop and provide student development activities events and programs to help student retention and success

  • Organize and provide leadership training for and promotion of clubs and organizations
  • Operate early access programs (e.g Herbert College Connections) and first-year student development
  • Use defined budget to support learning and engagement activities

Develop and provide engaging student activities events and programs to help student recruitment retention and success

  • Provide guidance for recruitment of students including review of marketing & promotional items to ensure proper representation and effectiveness
  • Serve as an advocate for student success by assisting with the development and implementation of programs resources and special initiatives that emphasize engagement within and without the College community scholastic achievement and mental health including Welcome Week activities College Scholarship Banquet and Awards receptions
  • Use defined budget to support learning and engagement activities

Provide service to the College University and Profession of Student Life

  • Committee service including leadership
  • Maintain professional development activities on and off-campus


Qualifications

Required Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Bachelors degree
  • Experience:
    • Two years experience working with college students or in employee development.
  • Knowledge Skills Abilities:
    • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
    • Ability to conceive develop and conduct programs and events
    • Ability to organize students and information
    • Ability to work with faculty staff and students to maintain a welcoming environment
    • Ability to follow policies and procedures
    • Ability to integrate and effectively relay information to stakeholders colleagues and administration
    • Skilled in Microsoft Excel Word Powerpoint
    • Ability to learn new software
    • Ability to collate data prepare tables & charts and translate data into recommendations and actions
    • Knowledge of student life issues national/regional trends and effective programs
    • Ability to manage budget
    • Ability to address student behavior and life issues
    • Ability to demonstrate creativity for programming and rapid problem-solving

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Education:
    • Masters degree
  • Experience:
    • Experience in student program development recruitment and/or developing and leading programs events and activities. Personal or professional experience and/or interest in student development and/or agriculture/natural resources or related areas.
  • Knowledge Skills Abilities:
    • Skilled in use of multiple forms of electronic communication
    • Ability to lead teams
    • Knowledge of how students learn
    • Skilled in the art of effectively teaching appropriate behavior
    • Ability to use introductory statistics to evaluate data
    • Knowledge of how to use BANNER or similar system
    • Ability to develop and maintain websites and social media use

Compensation and Benefits:

  • UT market range: MR08
  • Anticipated hiring range: $52000 to $55000

The Coordinator for Student Life is a valued member of the Deans office in the Herbert College of Agriculture at the University of Tennessee Knoxville. We offer an inclusive and supportive environment where students and families come first. The College consisting of nearly 1800 undergraduate and 300 graduate students is in growth mode. Multiple majors are offered in every one of the eight departments: Agricultural Leadership Education and Communication; Agricultural Resource Economics; Animal Sciences; Biosystems Engineering and Soil Science; Entomology and Plant Pathology; Food Science; Forestry Wildlife and Fisheries; and Plant Sciences.
