Overview

The EH&S Manager will play a key role in establishing and maintaining a safe environmentally responsible and people-centered workplace at Hamptons new sawmill in Allendale SC. This position will lead all safety health and environmental programs while partnering closely with operations and leadership to create a culture where safety and environmental stewardship are core values not just compliance requirements.

Responsibilities

Safety Leadership

  • Lead by example in creating a proactive safety culture built on trust accountability and teamwork.
  • Develop implement and maintain safety policies procedures and training programs aligned with Hamptons values.
  • Conduct regular safety inspections audits and risk assessments throughout mill operations.
  • Investigate incidents identify root causes and ensure timely corrective actions.
  • Coordinate emergency response planning and drills to prepare the site for any event.

Environmental Stewardship

  • Ensure compliance with all environmental regulations and permits (air water waste stormwater SPCC etc.).
  • Lead environmental programs that minimize waste reduce emissions and promote resource conservation.
  • Maintain required documentation and reporting for state and federal agencies.
  • Support Hamptons sustainability goals by integrating environmental responsibility into daily operations.

Health & Wellness

  • Oversee occupational health programs such as hearing conservation ergonomics and PPE use.
  • Support employee well-being through education proactive initiatives and wellness partnerships.

Training & Engagement

  • Develop and deliver EH&S orientation and ongoing training for all team members and contractors.
  • Communicate safety performance lessons learned and success stories throughout the mill.
  • Champion continuous improvement by involving employees in hazard recognition and safety improvements.

Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in Safety Environmental Science Engineering or related field (or equivalent experience).
  • 5 years of EH&S experience in manufacturing forest products or industrial operations.
  • Strong knowledge of OSHA EPA and South Carolina state regulations.
  • Demonstrated ability to build relationships influence positive change and lead teams.
  • Excellent communication and organizational skills with a hands-on field-based leadership style.
  • Experience in sawmill or wood products operations.
  • CSP ASP or CHST certification.
  • Prior experience starting up or building EH&S programs in new facilities.
