JOB SUMMARY/ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS: The Medical Technical Assistant 1 provides nursing support to Internal Medicine residents and attending physicians. This position helps ensure correct aseptic/sterile procedures are followed and performs invasive procedures as defined by nursing statutes.
Responsibilities
- Prepares exam and treatment rooms with necessary equipment and supplies.
- Assists physicians and residents with procedures and patient visits.
- Obtains vitals and brief health history.
- Assists with sending lab orders.
- Administers intramuscular and subcutaneous injections.
- Enters quality data into electronic medical records and assists with coding and billing.
- Performs telephone triage according to established protocols.
- Schedules referrals to specialist as needed.
- Performs other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
EDUCATION: High School Diploma or GED.(TRANSCRIPT REQUIRED)
EXPERIENCE: Six (6) months of work experience in a medical office. (Experience as a nurse assistant desired. Knowledge of medical billing preferred. Ability to communicate in Spanish preferred.)
LICENSE/CERTIFICATION:Current licensure as Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) or CCMA in the state of Tennessee required. (COPY OF LICENSE/CERTIFICATION REQUIRED)
KNOWLEDGE SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
- Ability to communicate both on telephone and in person.
- Knowledge of different insurance companies and the ability to maintain constant contact with the patients primary insurance carrier.
- Knowledge of medical terminology and medical vocabulary.
- Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite required.
- Ability to effectively prioritize and manage time.
- Ability to coordinate care for patients within and outside providers.
