Job Description Summary
The On-Site Service Specialist will have technical knowledge and experience working with GE/Alstom generators. He/she is responsible for the on-site maintenance of major rotating equipment components. This position requires 60 - 70% travel both domestically and globally.Job Description
Roles and Responsibilities
- All on site life extensions repairs and inspection-related service activities able to be performed at customer site includes onsite winding critical welding generator diagnostics.
- Broadening knowledge of own technical discipline to execute policy/strategy. May include support roles with specialized technical field of knowledge; still acquiring higher level knowledge and skills.
- Basic understanding of key business drivers; uses this understanding to accomplish own work. Good understanding of how work of own team integrates with other teams and contributes to the area.
- May have some autonomy to make decisions within a defined framework. Resolves issues in situations that require good technical knowledge and judgment within established procedures. Consults more senior team members for issues outside of defined instructions/parameters.
- A job at this level requires good interpersonal skills and may be required to lead a junior team. For customer facing roles develops strong customer relationships and serves as the interface between customer and GE. Explains technical information to others.
Required Qualifications
- Diploma or certificate in Electromechanics Mechanics or Mechatronics issued by an educational institution recognized by the Ministry of Education.
- Registration with Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA) as a Technician.
- 5 - 7 years experience with winding and or experience with generator disassembly repair and assembly.
- Knowledge of the office package (Excel Word Power Point Internet).
- Valid National Drivers License (B).
- Willingness and ability to travel for work globally on short notice and for extended periods of time including weekends and holidays.
Desired Characteristics
- Experience in Alstom or GE generators.
- Initiative teamwork concentration and good communication.
- Strong interpersonal and leadership skills.
- Valid passport.
- Permitted to work in all power plants in South Africa.
- Analytical ability and accessory suggestion.
- Experience in field service or maintenance.
