Cooley Dickinson Medical Group Orthopedics & Sports Medicine is where experienced highly trained professionals advance the health of patients through specialized expert treatment and prevention of musculoskeletal (bones ligaments muscles tendons) problems. The practices holistic approach to orthopedics involves coordination of personalized services within the practice and with other providers to ensure a comprehensive range of care to people of all ages. We have combined expertise in all major orthopedic specialties including sports medicine orthopedic trauma hand & upper extremities joint replacement and spine care.
We are seeking a full-time 40-hour Physician Assistant to support both our West Hatfield and Amherst clinics and to serve as first-assist in the operating room for trauma and total knee cases.
The PAs schedule will be as follows:
Mondays: Amherst clinic 8:30 AM to 4:30 PM
Tuesdays: OR at Cooley Dickinson Hospital from 7:00 AM to 5:00 PM
Wednesdays: Hospital rounds from 7:00 AM to 9:00 AM followed by West Hatfield clinic until 4:30 PM
Thursdays: 1st & 5th of each month in the OR 2nd 3rd & 4th of each month in Amherst clinic
Fridays: 3rd 4th & 5th of each month in the OR 1st & 2nd of each month in Amherst clinic
The PA will also have 1:1 call responsibilities (one in five weekends)
As true partners to the surgeons our Physician Assistants have the opportunity to work autonomously to the top of their licensure while also functioning as part of the collaborative addition to first-assist responsibilities this PA will also see patients independently in clinic for pre-ops post-ops and ongoing education.

Job Summary
The Physician Assistant (PA) is a licensed provider. The PA is responsible for the assessment and management of various populations of patients medical and/or surgical including diagnostic and therapeutic interventions development of appropriate plans of care and ongoing evaluation. May also perform additional duties such as precepting a small group of learners.

Essential Functions
-Provides direct care counseling and teaching to a designated patient population in the ambulatory inpatient operative and/or procedural setting.
-Performs complete histories and physical examinations.
-Orders interprets and evaluates appropriate laboratory and diagnostic tests.
-Develops appropriate plans of care and follow-up based on the outcomes of diagnostic laboratory and physical examination findings.
-Orders medications and writes prescriptions according to organizational and regulatory policies and procedures.
-Consistently provides high quality and timely documentation including admission and progress notes procedure notes operative notes and discharge summaries.
-Performs bedside procedures as are appropriate to the patient population.
