Job Summary

Job Responsibilities

Under the general supervision of the Warden

The incumbent will assist in managing planning implementation and coordination of ongoing services in the agencys centralized pre-release program which will include supervision of educational services chaplaincy volunteer services and human services/clinical counselors.
Coordinates with other divisionsand outside agencies to ensure inmates in the pre-release program haveaccess to available services and programs to assist them in theirtransition back into the community.
Supervises maintenance and sanitationin assigned areas.
Serves as on-call official on a rotating basis.
Writes policies and procedures for a level 1 institution.
Prepares(writes) various reports special studies and staff papers includingrecommendations relating to proposed changes in policies proceduresrules regulations and laws.
Other duties as required

Must successfully complete eight (8) weeks of SCDC Basic Training upon hire.

Minimum and Additional Requirements

State of South Carolina Minimum Requirements:

A bachelors degree and supervisory experience in a correctional environment or relevant military experience. Relevant experience may be substituted for the bachelors degree on a year-for-year basis.

SCDC Minimum Requirements:

(Or an acceptable equivalency as approved by the Division of State Human Resources.)

Ten (10) years of experience in correctional security military or police work including five (5) years of supervisory experience in a correctional environment.
A degree in criminal justice or a related degree may substitute for up to 1/2 of required supervisory experience (associate 2 years bachelors and above 2 1/2 years).
Must be certified by the SCDC training academy and successfully complete the basic supervisory course within Six (6) months of entry into the position.
