The Externals Group have partnered with a highly respected commercial roofing contractor that delivers complex projects across Northern Illinois. Due to aggressive growth they are now seeking a Sales Estimator with a proven track record of securing large-scale production jobs to drive revenue and expand their market footprint.
The Sales Estimator will be responsible for the full bid-to-win cycleidentifying high-value opportunities conducting technical site surveys and delivering persuasive proposals that secure major contracts in the commercial and industrial sectors.
A Day in the Life:
- Strategic Bidding: Identify and target large-scale production opportunities reviewing drawings and specifications to develop a winning bid strategy.
- Site Intelligence: Complete accurate take-offs and site surveys using roof assessments and core cuts to find value-engineering wins.
- Solution Design: Develop roofing assemblies that meet technical codes and warranties while remaining competitively priced for high-volume production.
- Closing Deals: Attend pre-bid meetings and act as the primary point of contact to negotiate terms and secure commitments from General Contractors and Owners.
- Proposal Delivery: Draft and present comprehensive proposals managing the sales pipeline from initial RFI through to the signed contract.
- Project Handoff: Support the transition from sales to operations ensuring all project documentation and client expectations are clearly communicated.
- Market Analysis: Participate in internal reviews to refine pricing strategies and maintain a competitive edge on large-scale tenders.
Key Requirements:
- 5 years of experience in commercial roofing with a specific focus on winning large-scale production/new construction projects.
- Strong understanding of low-slope systems (EPDM TPO PVC BUR Modified) and their application in high-volume environments.
- Proficient with The EDGE or similar estimating software for fast accurate bidding.
- Commercial Acumen: Ability to interpret drawings not just for cost but for strategic advantages that win the job.
- Sales-Driven Communication: Excellent negotiation and presentation skills with a closer mindset.
- Comfortable with travel to site locations and client offices across the region.
Relocation Support:
For the right candidate our client is open to supporting relocation to the West Chicago area and will assist in making the transition as smooth as possible.
