PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

Hey aquatic superstars! If you have ever felt like your current job is just treading water get ready to dive in deep.

The City of Aurora is searching for a highly motivated and talented Aquatics Coordinator. You will coordinate the development and implementation of programs and services at our indoor swimming pool complex. Were part of the Parks and Recreation Department meaning providing recreation is literally our business.

Think of this role as conducting an aquatic orchestra. You are the one ensuring every lifeguard and instructor hits their safety notes (sometimes literally during regular instructor audits) while keeping the whole show afloat. Youll be the captain steering the ship for our Recreation and Leisure Services Division.

We need a leader ready to manage the whole flow. Your primary mission involves overseeing staff ensuring the safety of all programs patrons and staff coordinating outstanding aquatic programs and handling critical tasks such as overseeing monthly in-service requirements for the pool. Youll also manage facility usage coordination and handle the hiring training and scheduling of our temporary staff. This is an opportunity to lead a comprehensive multifaceted program in which your strong interpersonal skills will be essential for maintaining effective relationships with employees and citizens.

The hiring range is $23.09 - $28.86/hour.

Salary to be commensurate with experience.

OVERVIEW OF POSITION / DEPARTMENT

The City of Aurora is seeking a highly motivated and talented individual to perform a variety of tasks to coordinate the development and implementation of programs services and resources at an indoor swimming pool
complex for the Recreation and Leisure Services Division of the Parks and Recreation Department.

PRIMARY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Oversees and regulates the monthly in-service for the pool.
  • Evaluates all in-service to the standard and ensures all staff complete in-service before the end of the month.
  • Oversees swim lessons to include attendance numbers staff performance and program evaluation.
  • Coordinates the development and implementation of aquatic programs and other recreational activities.
  • Lifeguard and Swim Instructor hiring training scheduling overseeing and evaluating.
  • Oversees the safety of all programs patrons and staff monitors and schedules program services and facility maintenance.
  • Performs regular lifeguard and instructor audits on all staff.
  • Schedules and oversees activities of temporary employees and/or volunteers.
  • Participates in promotional and marketing activities.
  • Coordinates and schedules facility usage
  • Monitors and orders staff uniforms and other program related clothing
  • Coordinates with community schools groups and organizations
  • Performs administrative tasks such as record maintenance.
  • Monitors swim lesson revenues
  • Assists in training assigning and evaluating temporary employees.
  • Performs additional duties as assigned.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS & WORKING CONDITIONS

An equivalent combination of education training and experience that demonstrates required knowledge skills and abilities may be considered.

Education:

  • High School Diploma required. Bachelors Degree in Recreation Administration Leisure Services Physical Education or a related field or equivalent experience preferred.

Experience:

  • At least 1 year of aquatics experience including supervision of a multi-faceted program responsibility for operating and maintaining the physical plant and supervising pool staff.

Preferred Qualifications:

Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of aquatic programs and swimming pool operations

Skills:

  • Strong interpersonal skills

Abilities:

  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees and citizens.
  • Handle sensitive or stressful situations with tact and diplomacy.
  • Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  • Coordinate schedule and instruct recreation programs.
  • Coordinate and oversee the work of others.

Licenses and Certifications Required:

  • Lifeguard/CPR-PR AED
  • Drivers License with a good driving record.
  • WSI (Water Safety Instructor) (Preferred)
  • CPO/AFO (Preferred)
  • Lifeguard Instructor (Preferred)

WORKING CONDITIONS

Essential Personnel:

When a local announcement of emergency or disaster is declared by the city all City of Aurora employees may be required to work as essential personnel.

Physical Demands:

  • Light to moderate physical work
  • May require ability to lift up to a maximum of 50 pounds.
  • May require lifting and carrying objects weighing up to 20 pounds.
  • Regular standing walking bending stooping pushing pulling and climbing.
  • Hand/eye coordination for operation of a computer system
  • Vision to read reports and other written material.
  • Frequent speech communication and hearing to maintain communication with employees and citizens.

Work Environment:

  • Works in an indoor pool complex with exposure to noise and chemicals used for swimming pool maintenance.

Equipment Used:

  • Equipment and machinery for swimming pool operation include pumps filters valves heaters chemical feed systems monitoring equipment and maintenance equipment.
