About this Job
The Oyster Lease Program within the Office of Fisheries works toward the Departments mission of conserving preserving managing and enhancing the states aquatic natural resources and habitats. The program oversees a statewide resource management program focused on the leasing of state water bottoms for the purposes of oyster cultivation. It relies on a Geographic Information System (GIS) to delineate the boundaries of over 8000 active water bottom leases and permits. Yearly we receive lease owners in the office to renew an average of 600 expiring leases and collect $30 for each. We receive payment enter lease data print new lease documents update legal description plats and collect signature. We also collect annual rent for all 8000 leases for 400000 acres at $3/acre.
In addition to yearly lease administration the Oyster Lease Section provides a walk-in environment where the office is open to the public. During office business hours M-F; 8:00am to 4:30pm. must have adequate personnel to answer the phone greet visitors at front door sell Oyster Tags and process lease transfers between lease owners.
Minimum Qualifications
Two years of experience in administrative services.
EXPERIENCE SUBSTITUTION:
Every 15 semester hours earned from an accredited college or university will be credited as six months of experience.

Job Duties and Other Information
Job Duties:
Answer phone and greet visitors at front door of office during business hours M-F; 8:00am to 4:30pm
Maintains lease files for Oyster Lease SectionoCreates new lease folders files legal documents upon lease renewal: Signed lease
Signed application & Signed plats
Lease transfers
Generates renewal lease and application and records lease application and lease numbers on renewal log
Prints account statements renewal notices and receipts as PDF documents then apply Optical Character Recognition (OCR)
Process rental and renewal paymentsoPrint plats for renewal mail outs
Oyster tag sales
Compile and send out certified letters to delinquent leaseholders
Assists other office staff
Order office supplies.
Maintain balance on office Postal Machine
Maintain payments to document shredding service
Pay for invoices related to yearly legal notices program
Prepare and schedule legal advertisement in local newspapers for delinquent leases
Receive and maintain oyster tag inventory
Performs yearly inventory of office equipment
Completes property tags as needed for equipment
Position-Specific Details:Appointment Type: Probational Appointment Job Appointment Detail to Special Duty Promotion (open to all statewide classified and agency wide permanent status employees)
Career Progression: This position does not participate in a Career Progression Group
Compensation:The salary offered will be determined based on qualifications and experience
Current permanent status classified state employees may be required to accept a Probational appointment if selected. If filled as a Job Appointment there is a possibility that this position may be converted to a Probational Appointment should funding become available.
