About the Department:

Shannon West Homeless Youth Center (SWHYC) provides safe and stable housing for youth ages 18- 24 who are experiencing homelessness. SWHYC motivates youth towards reaching self-sufficiency by providing the training and skills to further their education employment social and life skills.


Job Summary:

The Lead Residential monitor reporting to the SWHYC Program Supervisor oversees the shift responsibilities of residential monitors to ensure the shifts run appropriately.

  • Provides direction and support to residential monitors and provide hands-on assistance to Residential Monitors as needed to ensure the shift operates to standards.
  • Provides on-site consultation/ feedback to staff members including regular observation of program implementation through supervisions.
  • Conduct new hire training and shift training for residential monitors
  • Conduct follow-up training coachings and knowledge checks regularly
  • Provide feedback on staff progress evaluations and areas of concern to program supervisor
  • Reports all company standard and/ or ethical violations to appropriate contacts
  • Effective written verbal and listening skills. Independently initiates and responds to correspondence
  • Preform daily inspections and help ensure that the facility is clean and orderly
  • Ensures staff has completed the required paperwork and documentation during the shift.
  • Participates in staff/ resident development activities
  • Assist with investigations and respond to client grievances when deemed appropriate
  • Maintain safe positive and professional relationships with all business contacts
  • Presents program information to community agencies regarding eligibility requirements
  • Participate in hiring process of new staff to include interviewing and training
  • Complete inspect and maintain all documentation including but not limited to daily activity reports hourly logs runaway reports and resident tracking log
  • Builds positive rapport with residents and verbally de-escalates problematic behaviors
  • Assist and conduct life-skills trainings hourly room checks intake and assessments
  • Monitor on-campus activities: to include mealtimes chores and other activities
  • Supervise volunteers on campus when appropriate or as required
  • Complete resident discharge procedures (pack up belongings and clean out dormitory rooms) as required.
  • Answer and respond to phones emails and take messages when working inside administrative area
  • Uphold and act as ambassador for all HELP policy and procedures
  • Provide direct supervision to all residents during assigned shifts
  • Provides crisis intervention as needed
  • Supervises and document residents ingestion of prescribed and over the counter medications
  • Provides transportation when necessary
  • All other job-related duties as assigned by management for needs of the business

The ideal candidate will possess the following knowledge skills and abilities:

  • Knowledge of local social service agencies and programs as they pertain to homeless and at-risk youth
  • Experience and understanding of unhoused at-risk youth issues
  • Ability to maintain order and exercise appropriate judgment in crisis situations
  • Is flexible and can adjust to shifting priorities
  • Establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with residents fellow employees other agencies and the general public
  • Organize work schedule and budget time
  • Understand and follow all agency policies and procedures
  • General computer knowledge and ability to use Microsoft Office software
  • Ability to work flexible hours

Required Qualifications:

  • Proof of Highschool Graduation or GED
  • Active NV Drivers License and Clean DMV driving record
  • 2 years experience working with unhoused or at-risk youth
  • 1 year experience supervising staff in a professional or social service setting

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Active Health Card
  • Active CPR/ Frist Aid Certification
  • Crisis Prevention Institute Certification
  • Previous experience working in a social service setting
