Your New Role:

A unique opportunity exists within Councils Infrastructure Delivery Team for a motivated and detail-oriented professional to join us as a Surveillance Officer.

Reporting to the Works Engineer the Surveillance Officer plays a critical role in ensuring that Councils infrastructure projects are delivered to the highest quality safety and environmental standards and meet the expectations of our community.

This position is responsible for supporting Project Managers in the delivery of Councils major projects by assisting with the management of contractors and internal resources monitoring compliance with engineering standards specifications and procedures and maintaining a strong focus on quality assurance and continuous improvement.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Conducting surveillance and inspections to ensure works are delivered in accordance with approved designs standards and quality requirements.
  • Preparing and maintaining quality assurance documentation and records.
  • Supporting Project Managers in contractor supervision performance monitoring and project reporting.
  • Promoting and enforcing Councils commitment to workplace health and safety and environmental sustainability.
  • Identifying opportunities for continuous improvement in project delivery and quality outcomes.

Key Accountabilities

  • Adhere to safety protocols promote a safety-first culture and champion safe practices within the team.
  • Assist Project Managers to ensure compliance with the requirements of Infrastructure Delivery grant funding agreements.
  • Ensure contractors and internal staff comply with environmental procedures plans and governing body requirements.
  • Conduct regular quality audits and inspections to ensure compliance with established standards and processes.
  • Identify and report non-conformances and areas for improvement.
  • Maintain accurate and up-to-date records of quality inspections and findings.
  • Prepare quality reports and communicate results to project stakeholders.
  • Identify opportunities for process improvement and efficiency gains.
  • Work with project teams to implement corrective and preventive actions.

About You:

As the successful candidate you will possess these essential skills and attributes:

  • Highly developed communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to liaise effectively with a range of stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated experience in a quality assurance role preferably within a project-based or construction environment.
  • Sound understanding of quality management principles standards and methodologies.
  • Strong time management and organisational skills with the ability to manage competing priorities.
  • Proven ability to work collaboratively within a multi-disciplinary team to achieve shared outcomes.
  • Possession of a current Class C Driver Licence.
  • General Construction Induction Card (White Card).

Desirable qualifications and licences:

  • Relevant qualifications in civil construction engineering or quality management (highly regarded but not essential).
  • Traffic Controller (TCR) Implement Traffic Control Plans (IMP) and Prepare a Work Zone Traffic Management Plan (PWZ) certifications or a willingness to obtain these.
