Description
Hospice of the Chesapeake is seeking a Senior Accountant to join our Finance Team. Position is responsible for ensuring the accuracy and integrity of financial data and reporting. The Sr. Accountant manages core accounting operations while driving process improvements. This position requires a detail-oriented professional who can also provide essential support to the payroll and accounts payable functions and serve as a liaison across departments.
Duties and Responsibilities
Core Accounting and Reporting Responsibilities
- Financial Reporting: Prepare and deliver accurate schedules reconciliations and comprehensive financial reports to senior management on a timely basis.
- Month-End Close Management: Execute the full month-end close process efficiently and accurately including preparing and posting complex journal entries and ensuring all deadlines are met.
- Financial Statement Preparation: Prepare accurate monthly quarterly and annual financial statements in compliance with GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles).
- Audit and Compliance Support: Lead the preparation of all required schedules reconciliations and reports to support the annual external audit Form 990 tax returns Form 1099 and the annual operating budget process.
Operational and cross-functional duties
- Utility Player/Cross-Functional Support: Provide effective hands-on support to payroll and assists in the processing of accounts payable and deposits.
- Interdepartmental Liaison: Serve as the primary finance liaison to all operating departments providing statistical patient data answering financial inquiries and assisting with reports needed for grant applications.
- External Reporting: Prepare and submit required quarterly and annual financial surveys to various regulatory agencies throughout the year.
- Cost Reporting: Collect and compile all necessary data and reports for submission to MVI (or relevant entity) for the preparation of the yearly cost report.

- Management Reporting Implementation:Implement and manage a streamlined management reporting process for department-level financial statements facilitating efficient review of operating results versus budget by department managers.
- Technological Adoption:Champion the use of technology solutions and leverage accounting operational knowledge to enhance the control environment and drive operational efficiencies.
- Financial Analysis:Provide comprehensive financial analysis and insights to the Director of Finance and CFO as requested by the Board of Directors executive management or operational leaders.
- Other Duties As Assigned.

Qualifications
Your Qualifications:
Education & experience
- Bachelors degree in Accounting Finance or a related field or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- Minimum of five (5) years of progressive experience in accounting operations including accounts payable accounts receivable payroll and financial reporting.
Technical skills
- Proficiency in automated accounting systems and subsystems. Experience with Sage Intacct preferred; MyUnity and Paycom experience is a plus.
- Advanced proficiency in Microsoft Excel (e.g. pivot tables VLOOKUPs) and other standard office software.

- Strong organizational and time management skills; proven ability to manage multiple priorities and meet strict deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Exceptional attention to detail and accuracy with the ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
