Job Summary

Job Description:

The Digital Navigation Program at Loveland Public Library aligns with our vision and mission of creating a more digital equitable and inclusive community in Larimer County. AmeriCorps members serving as Digital Navigators assist community members with accessing affordable internet service and devices and providing digital skills training. During the 2025-26 service term members will be placed with one of 7 host-sites in Larimer County including: Loveland Estes Valley Red Feather Lakes Berthoud Wellington and Front Range Community College Larimer Campus in Fort Collins. To learn more about Loveland Public Library and the Digital Navigators of Larimer County Libraries programming visit serving in less than full-time roles may serve more hours per day & fewer days per week as arranged with their host site & their needs. Full Time members are expected to serve 7.5 8 hours per day 5 days per week to ensure completion of their service term.

Service Hours: Monday Saturday hours varying between 8:00 am 8:00 pm

Start Date: January 12 2026

End Date: December 13 2026

Average hours per week: 26 28 hours per week / 5 6 hours daily for 48 weeks

Total Expected Hours: 1200 hours of service

Program Overview:

The Digital Navigation program at Loveland Public Library teaches people living in Larimer County and the surrounding area digital skills including computer smartphone tablet and software basics and how to use the internet. Members are placed in public libraries and other local organizations that serve older adults and addition AmeriCorps members will attend local events to promote the Digital Navigation program.

Loveland Public Library provides access to information to community members through lending physical and digital materials educational programming and access to informational services and resources. As a community hub Loveland Public Library provides no-cost internet and computer access as well as the digital skills needed to use this technology.

Service Description:

Members in this program spend their service time supporting the growth and development of digital skills in the community to help bridge the Digital Divide. With technology becoming increasingly common in everyday life more community members are being left behind unable to complete basic digital tasks and skills.

Digital Navigators will meet community members 1 on 1 for appointments or drop-ins at assigned sites to teach digital literacy skills facilitate digital skills practice or teach online learning skills; members may complete appointments virtually upon arrangement with Program and Site Staff.

During service Digital Navigators will assess community members on their digital skills by 1) observation of digital skills task completion 2) assessments or skills inventories 3) in conversation about learners digital skills goal. Members will accurately complete data collection paperwork for the program the day of an interaction with a learner OR log interactions daily either digitally or physically to complete paperwork at the end of the service week.

Members answer questions about the program by phone/email/outreach events to inform the community about the importance of digital skills and will perform other digital literacy related tasks or attend Outreach events as assigned by Program Staff or Site Supervisor members may be assigned tasks that align with their skillset or scheduling availability. Throughout the service year members will support their learners digital skill goals.

Essential Functions

  • Support learners by appointment or during drop-ins to teach digital skills facilitate digital skills practice or teach online learning skills
  • Maintain appointment notes including duration of interaction learners needs service or help that was provided and outcomes of the service to report to the program
  • Assess learner ability & needs through observation of digital skills task completion assessment or skills inventory or talking about the learners digital skills goal
  • Maintain consistent & professional verbal & written communication with other members Site Supervisors Program Staff or learners including scheduling & rescheduling learner appointments by phone or email
  • Refer learners to library and/or external organizations for support outside basic digital skills such as job search or resume library databases and benefits websites.
  • Attend a monthly training day organized by Program Staff for member development

Secondary Functions:

  • Attend assigned Outreach events to inform the community about program services
  • Members will have additional functions based on their site placement such as Creative/Makerspace Technology Outreach Marketing Support Instruction Creation Scheduling/Phone Support Bilingual Spanish or Pulse Member.

Training Provided:

  • One to two weeks of Member Orientation including session topics on Digital Navigation Introduction to AmeriCorps & Introduction to Libraries
  • Members will receive monthly training throughout their term that will cover topics such as resume building time management staying safe online & how to teach adults.
  • Members may participate in optional Creative Technology Training such as 3D printing 2D/3D digitizing Adobe Suite Basics & CNC/Laser Engraving use/troubleshooting/maintenance

Preferred Skills:

  • Working familiarity with Mac OS Linux
  • Working familiarity with older model flip phones and tablets
  • Working familiarity with basic online safety practices and password management
  • Previous technology-based customer service experience

AmeriCorps Required Qualifications:

  • At least 17 years old at start of service
  • Must be a high school graduate GED recipient or working toward attaining a high school diploma or GED during the term of service. Members must obtain either a diploma or GED before using an education award.
  • Be a citizen national or lawful permanent resident of the United States
  • Able to pass a National Service Criminal History Check (state FBI and National Sex Offender Public Website checks) per 45 CFR 2540.202
  • Reliable vehicle car insurance & drivers license. A driving record may be obtained.
  • Able to lift transfer and move light duty technology equipment such as laptops tablets and rolling carts of up to 20lbs.

Program Benefits:

  • Three-quarter Time AmeriCorps members will receive a bi-weekly living allowance of $768 biweekly/$1538 monthly.
  • Three-quarter Time members are also eligible for an Education Award which can be used to pay back student loans or to further your education in the amount of $5176.50
  • Members receive professional development and training related to their service
  • Up to 20% of regular scheduled service may be served remotely provided that members follow all remote service policies & procedures
  • All members may be eligible for Federal program assistance (SNAP Medicaid etc.)
  • All members may be eligible for Member Assistance Program (MAP)- mental health life skills financial concierge resources
  • All members may qualify for student loan forbearance (postponing the payment of loans) while in service.
  • Alumni benefits include priority hiring with organizations that are part of Employers of National Service and the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program to eliminate educational debt.
  • All members who successfully complete their term of service are eligible to keep their service laptop.
  • All members in service may be eligible to utilize a hotspot for both personal and service use during their service year.

Service Site Overview:

Members will provide their service at public libraries senior living communities/outreach locations or Pulse Fiber Community Hubs.

Location and Service Conditions:

This program operates out of Larimer County & service will be conducted in person at sites in Larimer County.

Service occurs primarily indoors with some occasional outdoor service during Outreach events. Regularly scheduled service occurs inside the host site building unless member has pre-arranged for Remote Service.

About the Living Allowance:

An AmeriCorps Living Allowance is not a wage salary or hourly pay. You are enrolling in a service position not a job. The Living Allowance is a stipend designed to support basic necessities of the individual while in service such as room and board utilities and transportation. Carefully consider this when applying.

About the Education Award:

At the successful completion of your service term you will earn a Segal AmeriCorps Education Award. This award can be used in many ways to further your learning or reduce financial burdens related to education. Common uses include paying tuition at eligible colleges universities and technical schools or repaying qualified student loans.

There are also creative options you might not have considered: the award can be applied to approved study abroad programs vocational training or certification courses (such as EMT wilderness first responder or teaching credentials). Some members even transfer their award to a child or grandchild (if age 55 at the time of service). You have up to seven years to use it which gives flexibility to plan for whats next. Remember the Education Award is considered taxable income in the year it is used.
