Electrical Maint/Life Safety Supervisor
Salary: $89300 - $109200 annually depending on experience. Regular attendance is required to meet business and customer needs.
This position oversees the Electrical Maintenance & Life Safety Systems area managing skilled trades electricians and ensuring compliance with university policies. Responsibilities include recruiting training and evaluating staff handling labor relations and managing a complex budget. The role involves collaboration with various stakeholders long-term planning and responding to emergencies and facility issues. Strong interpersonal skills are essential for building effective relationships and achieving operational goals.
Job responsibilities are as follows:
40%: Supervision of the trades staff which includes:
Oversee Electrical Maintenance and Life safety Services directly supervising skilled trades electricians and possible student or trade helpers to ensure regulatory compliance best practices of safety and operational excellence and foster customer relationships to ensure best value for MSU.
Balance workload across team members and utilize open order contractors as necessary to supplement work force to maintain service excellence.
Provide technical support to staff as necessary. Identify gaps and host vendor training to advance the skills knowledge and ability of staff.
Respond to customer complaints and follow up with employees to foster an environment of continuous improvement.
Innovate and instill processes that advance our services to support our vision of being the best facilities organization in the nation.
Serve as an after-hours resource for emergent work.
15%: Strategic Planning:
Participate in long-range planning for departmental operations.
Contribute to the construction standard change process.
15%: Personnel Management:
Recruit hire evaluate and train staff.
Enforce university and departmental policies and procedures.
Resolve employee complaints and grievances.
Use Performance Excellence as a planning and evaluation tool to guide engage and motivate staff to succeed by using T-shape goal development with a concentration on succession planning and life-long learning.
10%: Communication and Collaboration:
Communicate with management to discuss projects staffing and problem resolution.
Collaborate with administrators unit business leaders and internal/external customers to discuss operations.
Work with union representatives to manage labor relations issues.
10%: Financial Management:
Manage a large and complex budget.
Assist in preparing departmental budgets.
Review financial projections and expenditures.
10%: Emergency Response and Facility Assessment:
Respond to emergencies inquiries and complaints from campus customers.
Inspect and assess problems damage and condition of campus facilities.
This position will engage in high performing leading edge practices valuing people partners and stewardship.
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired from specialized training such as that acquired in one year of college technical vocational trade or business school with coursework in the electrical trade; five to eight years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive work experience in supervising operational activities related to building maintenance and repair of electrical and life safety systems including electrical construction; or an equivalent combination of education and experience; expert knowledge in NFPAB 70E; knowledge of basic personal computer terminology and operations and the ability to use email and the Internet and mobile devices; possession of a state of Michigan Master Electrical License. Possession of a valid Michigan vehicle operators license will be required for this position. Must drive University vehicle to perform the duties of this classification and meet the Universities rigorous safe driving standards.
5 years of knowledge in the installation and maintenance of commercial mechanical electrical and fire alarm systems. Knowledge of facilities operations; experience with labor relations practices; working knowledge of Microsoft Office products (Outlook Word Excel); knowledge of Planon PlanGrid and EBS (SAP and Kuali); excellent customer relations skills; ability to communicate effectively with a diverse population; ability to work independently and as an effective member of a team; excellent organizational skills with the ability to multi-task yet give attention to detail with frequent interruptions; ability to handle confidential issues with complete discretion; self-starter who possesses good decision-making skills and demonstrated ability to follow-through; desire for continuous learning.

RESUME
Monday through Friday 8:00am to 4:30pm and may require after-hours weekend and holiday work. During peak workloads overtime may be necessary.
