Duties & Responsibilities
The Director of Light Rail Transportation - Field Operations will assume oversight of Light Rail Transportation Field Operations including Green and Mattapan Lines. The Director will manage Light Rail Transportation Field Operations including making all necessary decisions and adjustments to deliver safe and reliable service. This position will coordinate and work closely with the Director Chief Transportation Officer and Executive Director of Light Rail Operations. The Director will assist with developing and implementing strategies to continuously improve safety and service for all MBTA employees and addition the Director will serve as a key logistical manager during all emergencies and occurrences throughout the Light Rail system.
Minimum Requirements & Qualifications
- Responsible for the ongoing enhancements of the safety and performance of the Light Rail System through oversight and direction of all operational activities.
- Work closely with the Executive Director Chief Transportation Officer (CTO) of Light Rail and Light Rail Director on the day-to-day oversight of the Light Rail System to ensure service levels meet established goals.
- Assist in the development of overall goals priorities and strategic initiatives for Light Rail regarding service delivery safety compliance and budgeting to ensure the assigned rail line has the necessary staffing resources materials and equipment to meet all established goals.
- Provide quality assurance reviews of line performance to ensure service is met and report any trends to the CTO of Light Rail.
- Directly supervise Superintendents Field Supervisors and Night Supervisors.
- Indirectly manage all Light Rail transportation and associated personnel responsible for providing service on Green and Mattapan lines.
- Monitor and ensure the implementation of any needed mitigation plans to address areas of concern identified by KPI review or by the Superintendent or Supervisory staff during their course of duties.
- Work closely with counterparts in Engineering & Maintenance Facilities and Vehicle Maintenance to ensure support during emergencies severe weather and other service disruptions is available to minimize impact on service.
- Under the direction of the CTO and Executive Director implement and monitor any mitigation plans intended to address areas of concern identified through KPI reviews.
- Participate in the investigation of service delivery failures and manage the implementation of corrective actions.
- Remain up-to-date and fulfill roles and responsibilities as related to the MBTAs Safety Plan and ensure resources are available to all staff informing them of their roles and responsibilities in the Safety Plan.
- Manage and conduct investigations into any service or safety issues and implement corrective actions.
- Participate and coordinate the recruitment selection hiring and staffing of employees within Light Rail Transportation.
- Ensure the departments compliance with Authority policies and procedures including compliance with all applicable safety standards discipline processes and mandated training.
- Assume the role of the CTO as needed during vacations and other absences or to represent the CTO at meetings hearings and presentations when the CTO is not available.
- Ensure all inventory equipment facilities and materials under their control are protected and maintained and stored in a safe operating condition.
- Establish and maintain sound union/management relations while upholding the rights and interests of management and adhering to collective bargaining agreements.
- Respond to each inquiry whether from a customer vendor or co-worker in a courteous and professional manner.
- Respond directly or through others and/or report to work for emergencies extreme weather conditions or any other abnormal conditions that impair service or the safety of service twenty-four (24) hours per day seven (7) days per week. Drive a company or personal vehicle to visit work sites and to assist at emergencies service disruptions and/or other events as needed

- Experience using MS Office PowerPoint and Graphic applications.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate and present effectively to a diverse group of stakeholders and customers.
