Job Summary

Overview

The role of the Office of Child Support Paralegal Supervisor includes administrative andsupervisory work supervising the Child Support paralegals within the region and working withthe Regional Manager on the operations of the regional office. This position oversees the daily work of paralegals in a field office location and includes specialized professional work including supervision and evaluation of the paralegal staff as well as monitoring their court this role impartiality equity empathy and procedural justice are key. Furthermore Child support law is challenging and ever-changing. It requires adaptability openness and flexibility. Work is performed under the general supervision of the Child Support Regional Manager.

AHS BACKGROUND CHECKS: Candidates must pass any level of background investigation applicable to the accordance with AHS Policy 4.02 Hiring Standards Vermont and/or national criminal record checks as well as DMV and adult and child abuse registry checks as appropriate to the position under recruitment will be conducted on candidates with the exception of those who are current classified state employees seeking transfer promotion or demotion into an AHS classified position or are persons exercising re-employment (RIF) rights.

Environmental Factors

Work is performed in a standard office setting. Travel to court and other locations is required for which private means of transportation must be available. Some evening or overtime may be required. Must be able to work under pressure meet tight deadlines and deal tactfully with the public in emotionally charged circumstances.

Minimum Qualifications

Completion of a J.D. or LLB degree or law school equivalent by clerking AND one (1) year or more of experience in the practice of law OR six (6) months or more as a Child Support Paralegal.

OR

Paralegal certification (graduation from an accredited program in paralegal studies) or 30 college credits in legal or paralegal studies AND two (2) years or more of experience at or above a technical level in investigatory analytical research or paralegal duties.

OR

Bachelors degree AND two (2) years or more as a Child Support Paralegal OR three (3) years or more of general paralegal work.

OR

Associates degree or two years or more of full-time college course work AND four (4) years or more as a Child Support Paralegal OR five (5) years or more of general paralegal work.

OR

High School diploma or equivalent AND six (6) years or more as a Child Support Paralegal OR seven (7) years or more of general paralegal work.

Special Requirements

All incumbents must successfully complete the OCS training curriculum within six months of hire which includes passing the written Case Presenters Exam. All incumbents also must complete the Supervising in State Government Level I within six months.
