JOB SUMMARY

The National Examiner is responsible for the timely disposition-oriented oversight of complex and/or high exposure self-administered casualty claims from multiple jurisdictions. Responsibility extends to review and analysis of all aspects and phases of investigations evaluations negotiationsand settlements/denials of the following claims: predominantly workers compensation but may also include auto liability no-fault uninsured motorist and general liability. This role is also responsible for oversight and/or handling of the following claims: Legacy Starwood auto and general liability claims; and covered international claims as needed. The National Examiner generally works under limited supervision but within established guidelines producing and analyzing more complex business information to assist in the decision-making process.

CANDIDATE PROFILE

Education and Experience

Required

Minimum 7 years of progressive claims adjusting/handling experience.

Baccalaureate degree from an accredited college/business school or equivalent experience.

Advanced knowledge in claims processes and procedures.

Demonstrates strong negotiation investigation and mediation skills to resolve conflicts constructively effectively address complex issues and guides stakeholders toward achieving defined objectives.

Preferred

  • CPCU AIC and/or ARM highly desirable.
  • 5 years of supervisory experience.
  • Lodging/hospitality experience strongly preferred.

CORE WORK ACTIVITIES

  • Manage an acceptable caseload of workers compensation and liability cases as determined by the Senior Director Global Claims.
  • Acceptable caseloads vary based on the jurisdiction(s) mix and complexity of cases as determined by Senior Director Global Claims;
  • Coordinate decision making on workers compensation auto and general liability files with the Senior Director Global Claims when loss reserves exceed authority.
  • Produce timely high-cost memos pursuant to internal reporting guidelines.
  • Responsible for timely excess carrier notification/reporting updates and coordination of information.
  • Request excess insurance reimbursements when appropriate and in accordance with guidelines.
  • Analyze coverage and coordinate efforts with other risk management functions as needed to determine applicable coverage.
  • Become involved in trial preparation attendance monitoring and strategy. Also ensure litigation management techniques (planning budgeting and evaluation) are being used as stated in the Marriott Casualty Claims Policy and Procedures Manual.
  • Review and oversee all litigated cases that are going to arbitration mediation and/or trial.
  • Confirm MCS regional office determination for potential third party or subrogation recovery is made.
  • Act as a liaison between MCS Regional offices and applicable headquarters departments.
  • Effectively utilize the CE System to manage all claims electronically.
  • Maintain and effectively utilize CE diary on all assigned losses.
  • Regularly review assigned losses and provide guidance to MCS Regional offices and document in CE Notepad.
  • Audit Marriott Claims Services six regional offices and other claims administrators at the request of the Senior Director Global Claims.
  • Comply with Marriott Casualty Claims Policy and Procedure requirements.
  • Develop and conduct training for MCS Regional offices.
  • Complete special projects and other tasks assigned by the Senior Director Global Claims.
  • Conduct meetings give presentations and assist with the daily activities of the Corporate Casualty Claims Department.
