Department Overview
The respiratory care discipline at Childrens is generating a new perspective with cutting-edge clinical and diagnostic services including the development of clinical treatment protocols for patients with cardiopulmonary disorders. Respiratory care is provided in a collaborative environment where the clinical and technical expertise of the respiratory care staff is valued by nursing and physician professionals. Respiratory care staff are encouraged to participate in clinical and operational processes education of peers and patients and research activities. Respiratory care plays a vital role in Childrens national recognition for patient safety and family-centered care.
Respiratory therapists are involved in airway management ventilatory support (including high frequency and NAVA) asthma education point of care testing cystic fibrosis disease management and emergency respiratory interventions. We are a vital part of the rapid response team and the code team.

Position Summary
Performs delegated respiratory care treatments that include small volume nebs airway clearance and cough assist therapies as well as suctioning in medical/surgical units. The focus for the intern is patient assessments time management communication with patients parents and the healthcare team as well as evaluating effectiveness of therapy modalities. A licensed lead or resource respiratory therapist works every shift to support interns.
