About the Role
As a Psychiatric Registered Nurse within our Riverside unit at Berengarra Kew you will contribute to the dignity and quality of life of residents with behavioural and psychological needs within a safe and comfortable environment. You will have the opportunity to develop your clinical skills and progress your career while caring for a diverse range of residents in challenging and rewarding settings.
Classifications for this position will range from Registered Psychiatric Nurse Grade 2 NP21 - NP70 ($79352 - $100100 per annum pro rata).
Your Contribution
You will be an experienced Psychiatric Registered Nurse who brings previous experience within aged mental health nursing or dementia care to the role. Your commitment to working in a patient centred care framework will see you help residents achieve their health goals and improve their outcomes. You understand and are interested in the complex varied and often unique needs of our resident population and are committed and driven to provide the best care possible.
You will also have:
Current Nursing Registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA
An understanding of relevant legislation; principles and practice of aged psychiatry and an understanding of the Commonwealth Aged Care Standards
Current NDIS Worker Screening Check or be willing to obtain.

Riverside House is a 30-bed aged persons mental health unit which cares for residents with various mental health behavioural and psychological needs. The care model for Riverside House is that of person centred care which has at its core the responsibility to ensure that a persons ability to make choices in every aspect of their lives is supported where care is provided in consultation with each person and where institutional elements are eliminated to the greatest extent

POSITION PURPOSE:
The Grade 2 Registered Psychiatric Nurse (RPN) practices according to the registered nurse practice standards as defined by the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA). The RPN is a member of the clinical multidisciplinary team and fulfils their role under the guidance and support of the Nurse Unit Manager or delegate.
The RPN is accountable for their clinical practice at a level commensurate with their experience currency and educational preparation. The RPN is responsible for ensuring his / her own professional development in order to maintain clinical skills and knowledge and progress their ongoing development.
The RPN is a healthcare professional and operates with integrity according to the St Vincents code of conduct and values and the NMBA Code of Ethics.
POSITION DUTIES
Practice in accordance with the professional standards codes and behaviours that are regulated through the Nursing and Midwifery Board of Australia (NMBA).
Use validated assessment techniques and tools to recognise normal and abnormal health and functional states and identify clinical risks.
Using assessment outcomes in collaboration with Psychiatric Enrolled Nurses develop appropriate interventions into an individualised plan of care for each resident provided in a therapeutic psychosocial environment that promotes recovery re-abolement and independence.
Participate in regular review and evaluation of the effectiveness of care interventions provided for each resident using input from the nursing and multidisciplinary team.
Identify and liaise with agencies helpful to the aged person with mental illness and where required assume an advocate role on behalf of the individual.
Support and encourage residents and families understanding of care delivery and care planning through effective and timely communication with residents team members and the community.
Ensure clinical interventions are evidence-based and consistent with policy standard and clinical practice guidelines prescribed by SVHM.
Accept accountability for timely communication with the nursing team multidisciplinary team and reporting outcomes of nursing interventions to the Nurse Unit Manager or delegate.
Treat all residents visitors and staff in a courteous and non-discriminatory manner and maintain confidentiality in regard to residents and all staff.
Take responsibility for managing own learning needs & participates in relevant professional development programs including contribution to ongoing education initiatives within the work unit.
Comply with mandatory & other identified training requirements specified NMBA & SVHM.
Provide supervision & appropriate delegation to the Enrolled Nurse Health Assistant and pre-registration learner including providing support and mentorship of students and new staff. Provide peer support to newly registered or more junior RPNs.
Comply with SVHM policies procedures and guidelines supporting teams to operate safely and effectively and report all actual or near miss events in the organisations incident management system.

SELECTION CRITERIA
ESSENTIAL REGISTRATION LICENSE OR QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS
Current Nursing Registration with the Nursing & Midwifery Board of Australia via AHPRA
Minimum 2 years experience in the delivery of aged mental health services in a residential setting or psychiatric hospital OR graduate with a major in Mental Health Nursing in undergraduate degree OR post graduate diploma of psychiatric or mental health nursing.
Current acceptable NDIS Worker Screening Check
