Key Responsibilities

  • Assign journalists and videographers on the Montréal team and monitor the reports produced so that they are based on broadcast and digital needs
  • Identify original reporting ideas and ensure that they are executed by team members
  • Assist journalists in scripting reports
  • Create a production schedule and organize the delivery of reports based on program needs
  • Schedule videographers daily work together with the operations manager
  • Determine the tools required for the production they are tasked with; ensure compliance with specified direction and production criteria
  • Lead the teams morning production meetings
  • Serve as the point of contact for the productions assigned to all departments
  • Ensure that all content needed for a shows production is delivered at the appropriate time whether it pertains to journalists topics; images from local national or international feeds or elements from the Web
  • Produce digital news stories for the Web in collaboration with journalists
  • Occasionally write texts to be read on air by the news anchor or a journalist
  • Ensure compliance with current ethical standards and that information transmitted on any of the platforms is true and verified
  • Coach journalists on their on-air delivery and reporting
  • Manage their assigned budget parameters
  • Ensure compliance with the regulatory conditions of the newscast assigned to them
  • Manage the schedules of the editorial staff


Critical Qualifications

  • Bachelors degree in journalism film communications or any other training relevant to the position
  • Minimum of 8years of experience in a newsroom
  • Solid command of production technology for both TV and the Web
  • Extensive knowledge of local national and international news
  • Strong ability to identify the best topics and demonstrated creativity
  • High tolerance for stress and the ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Demonstrated autonomy
  • Experience in team management
  • Recognized for their leadership qualities
  • Fluent in French good knowledge of English

Adequate knowledge of French is required for positions in Quebec.
