TheMontana State Library (MSL)is seeking applications for aDigital Content Specialist for the Montana History Portal (MHP)This is a full-time permanent position that is eligible for all applicable state benefits and retirement. The position is located in Helena and is eligible for remote work within the State of Montana.

Who is the State Library

MSL is an agency of the Montana state government. We employ a staff of 50 professionals who are dedicated to providing state-wide library information and support state government information natural resources information and geographic information for all Montanans. We support the development and excellence of Montanas public libraries and reading materials for individuals with visual or physical disabilities. We provide open free and transparent data to support the states land water and natural resources programs. Our culture is based on values of service to our users transparency and trust. The State Library is a modern 21st century library.

What will you be doing

Digital Content Specialist Montana History Portal

End User Support:

You will provide technical support and training to MSL patrons and MHP users and contributors. Contributors include museums archives cultural institutions and libraries across the state. You will answer questions requests and feedback from end users create knowledge-based materials for users and provide training guidance and support for the successful creation of content for the MHP.

You must have an understanding and experience with metadata and be able to convey this information to contributors.

Outreach & Communications:

You will promote engagement activities and promotional programs of MSL content via social media by managing social media accounts creating outreach and communications materials and monitoring content and engagement.

What are we looking for

We are seeking someone with a strong appreciation for history and the history of Montana. Knowledge of social media platforms and communication strategies and an understanding of algorithms is a must. Previous experience with content management systems web page development tools and writing metadata as well as knowledge of digitization digital file formats and preservation of digital content are requirements.

Education: preference for a Masters degree in Library Science or a related field. A comparable combination of education and experience will be considered. We request a minimum of two years of professional work experience..
