Program Summary
The Kindergarten Transition (KT) program provides in-person classes for groups of up to twenty (20) children ages 35. KT program staff implements a kindergarten readiness curriculum focused on early literacy early numeracy and social-emotional learning. KT provides a welcoming and respectfully engaging classroom environment that supports childrens growth confidence and school preparedness. KT program staff guide children through structured activities routines and play-based learning experiences and engage positively with children and families to support a smooth transition into kindergarten.


Position Summary
The Instructor Aide supports the Lead and Assistant Instructors with implementation of the Kindergarten Transition (KT) program by providing direct services to children and families as they prepare for a successful start to kindergarten. The Instructor Aide helps create a welcoming community responsive and developmentally appropriate learning environment that promotes early learning school readiness and family engagement. The Instructor Aide collaborates closely with team members to support daily classroom activities family engagement sessions and community-based learning opportunities. The Instructor Aise assists with preparing lesson materials guiding children through routines supporting social-emotional development and modeling positive behavior and communication.


Within the KT program this work includes:

  • Building relationships with children and caregivers to support the transition into school settings
  • Encouraging early literacy numeracy and fine/gross motor skill development
  • Supporting families in understanding school expectations resources and processes
  • Helping create a respectful and engaging environment that honors each child and familys identity

The Instructor Aide participates in team meetings reflections and ongoing training to support continuous program improvement. This position does not include supervisory responsibilities.


Essential Functions

  • Outreach and enroll families into the Kindergarten Transition program
  • Support delivery of kindergarten preparedness curriculum to students
  • Support a positive classroom environment
  • Engage children in activities appropriate to their age and stage of development
  • Comfort working with 3- to 5-year-old students
  • Engage with and support families in their childs learning
  • Ability to be flexible and creative in meeting educational needs of multiple students with different language and developmental needs
  • Participate in staff meetings and trainings to support programs goals
  • Keep accurate and timely attendance records of students

Secondary Functions

  • Ability to meet multiple including conflicting deadlines
  • Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality
  • Ability to work flexible hours to meet the availability of clients
Requirements

Education & Experience

MINIMUM JOB SPECIFIC QUALIFICATIONS:

Any combination of education and experience that demonstrates the ability to perform the duties of the position is qualifying. This would typically include:

  • High School Diploma/GED and some coursework or training in early childhood education/development preferred
  • Experience working with young children
  • Experience working with populations whose native language is not English students and staff from varied backgrounds
  • Experience using positive reinforcement to manage student behavior
  • Experience working with multibackground youth and families
  • Must be able to pass to a criminal background and fingerprint check

Physical Mental & Environmental Requirements

  • Communication: Some interaction with those inside and outside the organization to exchange factual information
  • Creativity: Minimal need for the redesign of single focus process or procedure is needed
  • Mental: There is regular variation in tasks and the job holder must decide which tasks to complete as well as the order in which tasks are completed
  • Physical: Position requires little physical effort such as lifting carrying or constant movement but does allow for movement needed to complete work tasks

  • Work Independence: Positions at this level work under close supervision usually function from a clear set of operating processes or procedures and have work closely reviewed. Little to no judgment and decision-making is required.
  • Planning: Positions at this level have little to no planning responsibility beyond the need to schedule own work and determine impediments to own work schedule.
  • Environment: This level has a work environment that is well protected with virtually no hazards or obstacles. There is very little element of personal risk or hazard. Job conditions are stable usually well managed and very comfortable.
  • Schedule: The work schedule is mostly stable and does not fluctuate without prior notice.

Supervisory Responsibilities

Positions at this level are not responsible for any supervisory functions or responsibilities but may occasionally be asked to orient and/or train new employees or volunteers.
