Job Summary
A welcoming and forward-thinking secondary school in Hertfordshire is seeking a reliable and hardworking Caretaker to join their premises team for an immediate start. This is a full-time opportunity to play a crucial role in ensuring the school environment is safe clean and well-maintained.
About the Role
Working as part of the premises team you will support all aspects of site maintenance security and general upkeep. Your duties will include:
Opening and closing the site
Routine maintenance and minor repairs
Supporting health and safety compliance
Conducting regular site checks
Ensuring classrooms corridors and communal areas are safe and ready for learning
Monitoring heating lighting and building utilities
Setting up rooms for exams events meetings and assemblies
Liaising with external contractors
Supporting cleaning teams when needed
This is a vital front-facing operational role requiring someone who takes pride in maintaining high standards across the school building.

Candidate Requirements
Prior experience as a caretaker handyman or in a practical maintenance role
Good understanding of health & safety and safe working practices
Basic DIY/repairs ability

A positive solution-focused approach
A DBS check is required (the school can support with this).
Salary
