Title - Senior Automation Engineer
Location - Cambridge Ontario Canada (onsite)
Job Description:
Working knowledge of common machine shop techniques
Proficient in:
Pick & Place design
Bowl feeder selection
High-speed automation line design
Sensor selection
Material handling equipment & SPM
Conveyor design
Standard part selection (e.g. LM Guide servo motors)
Material selection
Thorough knowledge of drafting principles
Proficient in AutoCAD and SolidWorks
Capable of designing tooling from sketches or verbal concepts
Team player with ability to manage 15 offshore team members
Strong knowledge of pneumatics and hydraulics
Strong knowledge of electrical devices (switches load cells LVDTs etc.)
Ability to give and take direction effectively
Strong conceptual and problem-solving skills for complex designs
Excellent written and oral communication skills
Able to work independently with minimal supervision
Capable of handling 10 12 team members
Able to coordinate with onsite and offshore teams
Project management experience
Specific Responsibilities:
Perform engineering calculations (strength speed horsepower temperature pressure force etc.)
Analyze engineering drawings and specifications for design development
Evaluate feasibility of sequential machine operations
Produce working and detail drawings and BOMs using AutoCAD and SolidWorks
Ensure design compliance with standards (OSHA CE customer-specific)
Review drawings for accuracy material selection machining techniques finishes hardness
Liaise with customers and internal technical/engineering staff
Liaise with vendors for technical specifications
Follow health and safety rules and ISO procedures
Communicate task progress to supervising designer
Supervise mechanical design efforts and delegate tasks
Organize project documentation (quotes drawings schedules etc.)
Communicate time/resource estimates to Mechanical Design Director and Project Managers
Review electrical requirements with electrical designers
Review machine operations and sequences with programmers
Assist in debugging integration and problem resolution during system completion
Determine tools fixtures and equipment for fabrication and assembly
Select and requisition purchase components with delivery timelines
Examine project instructions for test specifications and design changes
Assist in developing design and departmental standards
