Position Summary
The Principal Investigator (Archaeologist) will lead and manage small to medium-sized cultural resource management (CRM) projects and co-manage larger initiatives. This role includes overseeing field operations for Phase I-III archaeological investigations conducting research analyzing artifacts and contributing to comprehensive archaeological reports. The selected candidate will play a key role in growing the cultural resources practice across Texas and neighboring states.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities

Conduct archaeological fieldwork identifying artifacts and determining the presence of archaeological sites.

Collect and document data and field samples during Phase I-III investigations.

Analyze historic and prehistoric artifacts features and site contexts.

Prepare and review documentation including methodologies findings and archaeological site forms.

Write or contribute to archaeological reports and research summaries.

Assist in developing project alternatives and resolving potential adverse effects on cultural resources.

Collaborate with field lab and office staff to ensure quality standards and regulatory compliance.

Support proposal preparation budgeting and business development efforts as needed.
Required Qualifications

Masters degree in Anthropology or a closely related field from an accredited institution.

Meets the Secretary of the Interiors Qualification Standards for Archaeologists.

Minimum 5 years of professional archaeological experience preferably in CRM.

At least 3 years of leadership or supervisory experience in archaeological fieldwork.

Familiarity with Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act and the Antiquities Code of Texas.

Eligibility to obtain a Texas Antiquities Permit.

Regional field experience in Texas Oklahoma or Louisiana (historic and/or prehistoric archaeology).

Demonstrated experience leading Phase I-III fieldwork and managing field crews.

Ability to provide a writing sample (thesis dissertation or archaeological report).

Valid drivers license and willingness to travel as project needs dictate.

Experience collaborating with Federal Agencies and Tribal Nations.

Ability to provide three professional references with contact information.
Preferred Qualifications

Registered Professional Archaeologist (RPA) or eligibility to obtain registration.

Experience with AutoCAD MicroStation ArcGIS Pro Field Maps ArcMap Google Earth or other GIS software.

Prior experience obtaining a Texas Antiquities Permit.

Strong background in laboratory and curation procedures.
