Job Description:
L3Harris is seeking qualified individuals to join our Aeronautical Systems Engineering (ASE) team as an aerodynamics this role you will analyze aircraft modifications using computational fluid dynamics (CFD) and classical analysis methods. You will manage tasks across multiple programs help with monthly labor forecast and develop bids and proposals.
Essential Functions:
- Calculate flight performance estimates including range/endurance drag estimates take-off and landing performance etc.
- Develop aircraft external air loads through classical analysis.
- Perform computational fluid dynamics (CFD) analysis for external flow on aircraft.
- Identify conditions critical for structural design.
- Develop operational load spectrum for fatigue analysis.
- Determine airframe internal loading in terms of shear moment and torsion (VMT).
- Calculate compartment loads for rapid decompression.
- Estimate effect of external mods on stability and control.
- Plan and evaluate flight testing for handling qualities.
- Perform icing analysis.
- Predict the trajectory for the safe separation of stores.
- Analyze unsteady external flow on aircraft.
- Develop flight test procedures and post-process results.
- Write analytical reports test plans and test reports.
Qualifications:
- Bachelors degree in aerospace engineering and minimum 9 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 7 years of prior related lieu of a degree minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Excel Word and PowerPoint.
- Computational fluid dynamics (CFD) experience.
- Knowledge of FAA guidance regulations and practices for showing compliance.
- Willingness to travel and work weekends occasionally.
- Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD security clearance which requires U.S. citizenship.
Preferred Additional Skills:
- Experience with FUN3D for CFD analysis.
- Ability to utilize a high-performance computing cluster for CFD.
- Knowledge of instrumentation and test methods for verification of aerodynamic loads and performance parameters.
Knowledge of military airworthiness requirements for aircraft loads.
