As an Information Rights Manager for the Information Governance Team you will lead an established Information Rights Team overseeing responses to information requests under key legislation including the Data Protection Act 2018 GDPR and the Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002. This is a pivotal role that offers a broad scope of work across the Branch and wider organisation ensuring that information rights are respected and managed in compliance with statutory timescales.

You will work closely with colleagues across the organisation Scottish Government law enforcement agencies and other external stakeholders to promote good practices develop compliant processes and raise awareness of our obligations. This high-profile role offers an exciting challenge supporting transparency safeguarding data and upholding the rights of individuals in a public sector context. Responsibilities

Stakeholder Engagement and Communication

  • Establish and maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders including regulatory bodies to promote awareness of the Information Rights Teams work.
  • Lead communication and engagement activities to ensure understanding of information rights principles both within the Agency and externally.

Leadership and Team Management

  • Lead the Information Rights Team in managing and responding to all information requests within statutory timescales.
  • Support and manage the teams workload ensuring efficient and compliant handling of requests.

Advice Support and Compliance

  • Provide expert advice and support to colleagues across Social Security Scotland on compliance with relevant legislation including data protection and freedom of information.
  • Monitor and ensure the organisations adherence to information rights legislation and best practices.

Request Management and Correspondence

  • Manage challenging correspondence and requesters received via dedicated mailbox highlighting and addressing any issues or concerns promptly.
  • Provide oversight of responses to information requests ensuring accuracy and timeliness.

Training and Awareness

  • Contribute to the delivery of training sessions and awareness events to promote understanding of information rights across the organisation.
  • Develop and implement initiatives to increase awareness of information management responsibilities.

Administrative and Logistical Support

  • Provide logistical and administrative support for the team including arranging meetings planning events and supporting team development activities.
  • Assist colleagues across the wider team in delivering their key responsibilities related to information rights.


Qualifications

Qualifications
Individuals will ideally have completed accredited training in the information rights arena such as the BCS Practitioner Certificate in Data Protection or equivalent qualification.

Experience
1. Experience of managing and responding to information requests under legislation such as the Data Protection Act 2018 GDPR or Freedom of Information (Scotland) Act 2002 ensuring compliance within statutory timescales including supervising and supporting a team to deliver these responsibilities effectively.
2. Demonstrable experience of leading or contributing to information rights data protection or information governance initiatives within a large complex organisation.

Candidates who are successful at sift stage will be invited to attend an Interview and Assessment where we will further assess the Experience and Behaviours listed. This will consist of an interview and presentation.

Working pattern
Our standard hours are 35 hours per week and we offer a range of flexible working options depending on the needs of the role. We embrace a hybrid working style where all colleagues will spend time in either our Glasgow or Dundee offices. There is an expectation of a minimum 2 days per week in your assigned location which will be either Glasgow or Dundee.
