Position Overview

This position is accountable for coordinating contracts prior to advertisement for bids assisting in thedevelopment of cost and time estimates for bridge and structure projects and evaluating contractorsubmitted bids in comparison to the official state position also assists with the development of annual bridge cost reports for the department.

Essential Functions

  • Receives organizes and distributes bridge contract plans prior to advertisement for bids.
  • Assists in the development of timely and accurate official state estimates to be utilized for the award ability of contractors bids.
  • Develops cost and time estimates prior to advertisement for contractor bids.
  • Reviews contract bids and evaluates discrepancies between contractor bids and department estimates.
  • Assists in the development of annual bridge cost reports for the department.
  • Ensures complete and accurate reports and statistical tabulations of pay item costs as scheduled or requested.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of two years of college in civil engineering technology pre-engineering or a job related technical/science curriculum PLUS twelve months of engineering experience OR four years of engineering experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office software.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Good organizational skills.
  • Ability to maintain cooperative relationships.

Conditions of Employment

  • Valid drivers license.
  • Occasional statewide travel with overnight stays.
  • Successful completion of a background screening.
