As a Bridge Technologist in the Government of Alberta youll play a pivotal role in the oversight and upkeep of the provinces bridge infrastructurebridging the gap between technical execution and public service. From emergency repairs to large-scale rehabilitation your expertise ensures that Albertas bridges remain strong safe and sustainable for years to come.

As a Bridge Technologist youll support the Bridge Manager in delivering a wide range of bridge maintenance and rehabilitation programs. Youll manage projects through every phasefrom inspections and design input to construction oversight and contractor engagement. This role blends fieldwork contract administration stakeholder collaboration and problem-solving in a dynamic environment where no two days are the same. Your decisions and leadership will directly influence project outcomes public safety and long-term asset integrity.

Your key responsibilities include:

  • Managing the annual bridge maintenance program by reviewing inspections prioritizing repairs and ensuring cost-effective project delivery.
  • Responding to urgent infrastructure issues with timely practical repair solutions that minimize disruptions to the public.
  • Engaging and overseeing engineering consultants through all stages of bridge maintenance and inspection activities.
  • Defining project scopes preparing technical documentation and developing site-specific repair plans.
  • Monitoring contractors performance and compliance with technical specifications safety protocols and environmental controls.
  • Collaborating with internal and external stakeholdersincluding regulatory agencies municipalities and utility companiesto ensure seamless project execution.
  • Assisting in the delivery of broader bridge construction and rehabilitation programs across the region.
  • Providing technical advice design input and field information to support municipal bridge projects and utility installations.

This position requires travel throughout Albertatypically around 25% of the work schedule. It offers a varied work environment that includes both field and office-based activities ideal for individuals who enjoy a flexible and hands-on approach to their work.
