Requirements
Qualifications:
- BSc (Hons) Engineering Geology (minimum)
- Professional registration with SACNASP essential.
- Involvement in voluntary associations would be beneficial (SAIEG)
Experience:
- Minimum of 10 years practical experience in engineering geology.
- Strong track record in geotechnical investigations for a variety of sectors both in South Africa and Africa.
- Dolomite-specific experience would be advantageous.
- Rock engineering specific experience would be advantageous.
- Demonstrated ability to mentor and supervise junior engineering geologists and geotechnologists.
Key responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for the following:
- Geotechnical investigations: Planning execution and reporting for a variety of investigation levels (preliminary feasibility detailed design).
- Data analysis: Collection analysis and interpretation of geotechnical data.
- Site supervision: Supervising geotechnical contractors and junior staff including appointment of contractors oversight of site operations and ensuring adherence to project timelines quality and environmental standards.
- Mentorship: Supervision and mentoring of junior staff (students graduates junior engineering geologists and geotechnologists).
- Reporting: Preparation and delivery of professional quality technical reports and presentations.
- Decision making: Providing sound technical solutions and decisions throughout project phases.
- Project delivery: Ensuring projects are completed on time within budget and to client specifications.
- Procurement of work: Preparation of quotations tenders specifications and cost estimates.
- Standards development: Contribution to the development and implementation of internal standards systems and best practices.
- Client interaction: Building strong relationships with clients and maintaining professional communication without constant senior oversight.

- Strong knowledge of local geological and geotechnical conditions including dolomite and problem soils.
- Working knowledge of legislation regulations and guidelines.
- Excellent written and spoken English including technical report writing skills.
