  • STARTING SALARY: $52918 annually (based on experience)

    SUMMARY:
    Assists in implementing the K-12 Reading/Literacy Program which encompasses interactive reading writing speaking listening and thinking processes and to ensure that all students have an equal opportunity to become effective independent readers and life-long learners.

    ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.
    • Acts as an instructional leader in guiding and modeling reading instruction based on best practices and current research.
    • Provides reading to support for individual students and small groups of students and whole groups in classroom settings.
    • Works with students in a variety of instructional settings ie. developmental remedial content area and enrichment.
    • Acts as a resource for classroom teachers to implement reading strategies staff development reading assessment and flexible grouping practices.
    • Assists in monitoring standard c and standard r.
    • Works collaboratively with administration to develop and implement K-12 Reading/Literacy Program.
    • Provides leadership for the development and implementation of the PK-12 reading curriculum.
    • Provides leadership for the integration of the PK-12 reading curriculum into all content areas.
    • Guides the process of selecting reading textbooks/materials.
    • Works with teachers in diagnosis of reading strengths/weaknesses of students and placement of students.
    SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
    Students and student helpers.

    QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.     EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:
    Masters degree with a major emphasis in reading and a minimum of two years teaching experience.

    COMMUNICATION AND LANGUAGE SKILLS:
    Ability to read analyze and interpret general business periodicals professional journals technical procedures or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports business correspondence and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of teachers students parents administrators School Board and community.

    MATHEMATICAL SKILLS:
    Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions percentages ratios and proportions to practical situations.

    ANALYTICAL AND REASONING ABILITY:
    Ability to define problems collect data establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret an extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
    OTHER SKILLS AND ABILITIES:
    Ability to apply knowledge of current research and theory to instructional programs; ability to plan and implement lesson plans based on District goals and the needs and abilities of students assigned. Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students peers and parents; skill in oral and written communications.

    TEMPERAMENTS:
    Ability to direct others deal with people and influence people in their opinions attitudes and judgments. Ability to perform a variety of duties with frequent change in task.

The employee is occasionally required to taste or smell and sit. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 10 pounds such as books and occasionally up to 25 pounds. Specific vision abilities include close vision distance vision color vision peripheral vision depth perception an the ability to adjust or focus.

    CERTIFICATES LICENSES:
    Must possess and maintain or be eligible to obtain a current Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction Reading Specialist or Reading teacher license Code 316 317.

    PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
    Shall complete a physical examination as required by Wisconsin Statute 118.25.
