About the opportunity

The Dean of Students Investigator Hall is a senior leadership position responsible for fostering a safe vibrant and inclusive residential community across Investigator Hall and Inveresk Apartments. This role requires a highly skilled leader with strong emotional intelligence and experience managing diverse adult communities in residential or similar environments. The Dean oversees all aspects of staffing and student engagement ensuring operational efficiency workplace safety and a positive culture for both staff and residents. Acting as a key liaison between students staff and senior leadership the Dean ensures that voices are heard and incorporated into decision-making processes.

Aligned with the Residential Communities Strategy the Dean plays a pivotal role in pastoral care safety and continuous improvement initiatives to enhance the resident experience. The position champions values of belonging shared growth and student-led leadership within a collegiate model guided by principles of collaboration innovation and sustainability. This role demands flexibility including out-of-hours commitments to effectively support the wellbeing and development of students while contributing to strategic goals that create uniquely Tasmanian communities where students can thrive.

What youll do:

  • Foster an inclusive secure and supportive culture knowing all students and maintaining a high profile and active presence as the leader of the Investigator Hall community.
  • Effective management of day-to-day behaviour student grievances risks and emergencies within the community.
  • Establishing strong relationships with and leading managing training and guiding all staff who report to the Dean of Students.
  • Lead the implementation of health promotion and prevention interventions including our commitments under the Gender-Based Violence Action Plan that address common wellbeing issues and build resilience in the student community.

What were looking for:

  • Demonstrated experience and genuine commitment to leading guiding supporting and developing emerging adults and mature students in a residential college tertiary education or equivalent community setting.
  • Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills exhibiting high emotional intelligence with experience leading and motivating a team to deliver outcomes whilst fostering positive relationships with internal and external stakeholders.
  • Excellent judgment and diplomacy including the ability to take a firm line tempered by compassion and fairness.
  • Proven administrative and organisational efficiency and effectiveness including the ability to plan work to deadlines and manage workload with minimal direct support or supervision.

Salary details

Appointment to this role will be at HEO 8 and will have a total remuneration package of up to $152033 comprising base salary within the range of $114282 to $129943 plus 17% superannuation.
