Payroll Officer

About the Role:
As a valued member of our People and Integrity Team the Payroll Officer is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of payroll maintaining employee records ensuring compliance with relevant legislation and EBA responding to payroll-related queries and contributing to the overall efficiency and effectiveness of payroll systems.
The role is offered on a part-time basis (0.6) with the possibility to negotiate flexible work arrangements which are mutually beneficial to the successful candidate and the College.
Responsibilities may Include:
- Process the Colleges fortnightly payroll accurately and on time including bi-weekly monthly and special payrolls.
- Prepare reconcile and process superannuation contributions and reports.
- Prepare and process PAYG tax reports and payments.
- Respond promptly and professionally to staff payroll enquiries
- Maintain up-to-date employee payroll records including new hires terminations and pay rate adjustments.
- Prepare issue and submit staff income statements to the Australian Taxation Office.
- Coordinate start-of-year payroll setup including entering new staff details and verifying hours and rates.
- Assist with quarterly payroll cost forecasting and contribute to the preparation of the annual wages budget.
- Ensure compliance with the Colleges Enterprise Bargaining Agreement and relevant legislation.
- Provide employee wage details to WorkCover as required and assist with ongoing claims.
- Oversee salary packaging government payments and other payroll disbursements with accuracy and attention to detail.
Key Selection Criteria
- Demonstrated experience in end-to-end payroll processing for a medium to large organisation.
- High level of accuracy in data entry and financial reporting with strong analytical skills to identify discrepancies and variances.
- Relevant qualifications in accounting business or payroll administration (or progress toward such qualifications) will be highly regarded.
Essential Qualifications:
- Have a current Positive Notice working with children Blue Card or the ability to obtain one.
- Experience working in an educational setting highly regarded.
