We regulate financial services firms in the UK to keep financial markets fair thriving and effective. By joining us youll play a key part in protecting consumers driving economic growth and shaping the future of UK finance services.
SPC oversees firms and individuals (supervision) creates and reviews the rules by which they operate (policy) and identifies and remedies ineffective competition in markets (competition). The Retail Banking Directorate oversees supervision and policy for UK retail banking and mortgages driving better outcomes for consumers including those with vulnerabilities - through firm-specific sector-wide and event-driven work with a strong focus on fairness affordability and consumer protection.
Role responsibilities:
Lead end-to-end delivery of cross-cutting Retail Banking projects from initial scoping to successful completion ensuring initiatives drive meaningful improvements for customers and the industry
Influence and collaborate with senior stakeholders across the FCA and externally to embed better practices in culture governance and systems directly shaping fairer outcomes for millions of banking customers
Analyse complex risks and strategies to identify potential harms and craft innovative solutions safeguarding the integrity of the financial sector
Advocate for continuous improvement by recommending process enhancements supporting colleagues and proactively identifying sector-wide risks to keep our approach agile and forward-thinking
Develop and mentor talent through line management opportunities providing coaching and guidance that empowers team members and builds future leaders
Skills required:
Minimum:
Proven experience in building effective working relationships with and providing challenge to internal and external stakeholders
Proven experience of assessing complex often sensitive information and identifying and presenting relevant issues
Proven management experience with experience of supporting the effective planning prioritisation and allocation of work. Ensuring that the team delivers against standards and deadlines with minimal oversight and appropriate escalation
Essential:
Strong experience in managing projects and particularly in resource allocation and delivering multiple competing workstreams
Experience working in financial services or in another sector for a regulator public body or equivalentpreferred
Proactive mind-set and a risk-based approach to decision making
Proven ability to coach guide and motivate others and serve as a role model to positively promote and influence good behaviours within the team and wider department
Problem solving ability to make sound judgments quickly from a broad and varied range of information which can be justified in a concise manner as well as knowing when to escalate issues
Ability to think critically (and comparatively) about the strengths and weaknesses of firms business models strategies and culture to identify relevant risks issues and themes and arrive at appropriate judgements
