Duties and Responsibilities
MANAGEMENT OF STUDENT DATA
  • **Manage the collection compilation validation benchmarking and dissemination of data from various sources including University information management systems national databases and published sources.
  • **Maintain a considerable knowledge of the UH Student data warehouse and oversee assigned data categories for ongoing improvements.
  • **Ensure data quality and integrity by diagnosing and resolving issues related to programming coding structures and input errors; implement preventive data validation QA checks and audit trails.
  • **Use commonly available data analytical tools such as Excel Google Sheets SPSS or SAS to transform and summarize data for analyses and official reporting.
  • **Standardize data and reporting definitions to promote consistency across reports.
  • **Collaborate with University offices and external agencies to improve data availability and quality; coordinate data submissions and validation cycles.
  • **Protect data security and confidentiality; promote responsible data access and use; and comply with government regulations and university policies related to student data privacy.
  • Develop and execute simple to moderately complex queries to extract data in relational databases.
RESEARCH AND REPORTING
  • **Anticipate stakeholder information needs by monitoring and analyzing developments at the national regional and University levels within the context of higher education.
  • **Develop and apply complex qualitative and quantitative research methodologies for system-wide program evaluation and planning.
  • **Translate analytic results into concise compelling deliverables (briefs dashboards and presentations) with actionable recommendations.
  • **Advance data literacy by providing training documentation and consultations on metrics methods dashboards and appropriate interpretation.
  • **Lead compliance and external reporting in assigned areas (e.g. IPEDS) ensuring accurate and timely submissions.
  • **Respond to ad hoc requests from both internal and external stakeholders.
  • Serve on task forces working groups and committees as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

  1. Possession of a baccalaureate degree in in statistics psychology sociology public policy political science educational research data sciences business economics quantitative methods research methods or tests and measurements or related field and 3 years of progressively responsible professional experience with responsibilities for administrative and program research analysis; or any equivalent combination of education and/or professional work experience which provides the required education knowledge skills and abilities as indicated.
  2. Considerable working knowledge of principles practices and techniques in the area of statistical analysis methods and techniques and the ability to apply these methods and techniques to a diverse range of data and administrative systems and processes using personal computers and software to create spreadsheets and graphics as demonstrated by the broad knowledge of the full range of pertinent standard and evolving concepts principles and methodologies.
  3. Considerable working knowledge and understanding of applicable federal and state laws rules regulations and theories and systems associated with compliance academic planning and management and institutional research and analysis.
  4. Demonstrated ability to resolve wide ranging complex problems through the use of creative reasoning and logic to accurately determine the cause of the problems and the resolution of the problems in an effective innovative and timely manner.
  5. Demonstrated ability to interpret and present information and ideas clearly and accurately in writing verbally and by preparation of reports and other materials.
  6. Demonstrated ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with internal and external organizations groups team leaders and members and individuals.
  7. Demonstrated ability to operate a personal computer apply word processing software and utilize data analytical software/tools such as Excel SPSS SAS R or Python.
  8. If applicable for supervisory work demonstrated ability to lead subordinates manage work priorities and projects and manage employee relations.
  9. Demonstrated ability to use personal computers and software to manipulate/prepare large datasets using advanced formulas/syntax/coding generate pivot tables and crosstabulation; in particular possesses advanced skills in Excel.
  10. Ability to do detailed and accurate work.


Desirable Qualifications

  1. Masters degree with coursework in statistics data science quantitative methods research methods assessment and evaluation tests and measurements or mathematics.
  2. Experience in higher education.
  3. Experience in higher education institutional research.
  4. Knowledge of data warehousing.
  5. Experience in developing public-facing analytical/reporting resources using business intelligence tools such as Tableau and Power BI.
  6. Experience in project management.
