About the Role
The aim of the position is to provide the highest quality specialist anaesthesia and acute pain medicinecare to the patients of SVHM. The Specialist Anaesthetist has responsibility for the services provided bythem in the Department under direction from the Head of Department including inpatient andpreadmission services clinical consultation teaching research and quality improvement activities.
This position will also act as liaison with the Intensive Care Unit to assist with trainee education planningfor complex patient management and support for other planning as required.
Ensure consumers receive information in an appropriate and accessible format
Actively support consumers to make informed decisions about their treatment and ongoing care
Ensure consumers are aware of their rights responsibilities and how to provide feedback
Consult with peers and other experts and refer to other healthcare workers when appropriate
and in a timely manner
Collaborate and clearly communicate with patients/clients and the healthcare team
Participate in clinical risk management and continuous quality improvement activities as part of
day-to-day work
Your Contribution
Currency of CPD and professional good standing including recency of practice in providinganaesthesia for a range of complex adult surgical and interventional procedures and availabilityon the days required.
Recency of practice and either fellowship experience in ICU or evidence of consultant-levelexpertise.
Current National criminal history check or willing to obtain/ Current NDIS Worker Screening Check or willing to obtain (Select which is applicable)

St. Vincents Hospital performs over 15000 anaesthetics procedures per year covering all the surgicalspecialties except for paediatrics and obstetrics. There are over 450 open heart surgery cases more than1000 neurosurgical cases 400 thoracic cases and many other major surgical procedures including major
orthopaedics carried out each year. Anaesthesia services are also provided for endoscopy interventionalradiology structural cardiology and also to psychiatric services for ECT. For surgery there is a strongcommitment to regional anaesthesia and most major regional blocks techniques are performed. We are
leaders in the use of ultrasound for regional anaesthesia and intraoperative echocardiography.
There is a strong and successful teaching programme with a dedicated half-day of tutorials per week and aweekly department education meeting. Applicants would be expected to contribute to both clinicalteaching structured tutorial education and in-training assessment including workplace-based assessment
