Advanced Trainee Medical Oncology
Fixed term full time position (12 months) - commencing 2 February 2026 - 43 hours per week

The Advanced Trainee in Medical Oncology will work under the direction of the Senior Medical Oncologist to get exposure and experience with clinical patients and related research at Cabrini Health which will enable the trainee to attain the required skills and knowledge for the term in medical oncology.
The Advanced Trainee will have direct responsibility for the treatment of patients with a wide array of cancers. This will include an initial assessment of patients development of treatment plans in a multidisciplinary setting initiation and continuation of chemotherapy biological and endocrine anti-cancer therapies treatment of toxicities enrolment of patients onto clinical trials and general symptom management.
There will be standard care for inpatients day patients receiving chemotherapy and consults. There is significant participation in clinical trials especially phase I and II studies. There is participation in all Cabrini MDMs including colorectal cancer upper GI malignancies breast cancer GU cancers lung cancer gynaecological oncology and hematology. The trainee will attend the VMOTG journal club and the annual MOGA Scientific Meeting.
The position will operate in a busy private oncology practice and the job involves patient care at both the Cabrini Malvern and Cabrini Brighton campuses
Key responsibilities:
- Provide onsite management of Cabrini inpatients (excluding ICU) including assessment treatment and monitoring in consultation with the patients primary specialist(s).
- Perform procedures which are relevant to patient care and for which you have received necessary standards of training (e.g. intravenous cannulation male and female catheterisation arterial/venous blood gas collection).
- Prescribe appropriate fluid drug and other therapies deemed appropriate for the patients welfare.
- First responder for MET calls and other emergency codes and the provision of emergency medical care in collaboration with other on-site clinicians and where appropriate the patients admitting consultants (VMOs).
- Maintain professional standards of contemporaneous documentation and communication. Participate in clinical handover with the patients care team on commencement and conclusion of shifts.
This role also provides the opportunity to experience working in a private not-for-profit health service and build future relationships with Cabrini Health.

Cabrinis Advanced Trainee in Medical Oncology will provide compassionate and competent care to all patients working within the Mission and Values of Cabrini Health.
You will have:
- Successful completion of the FRACP examination
- Registered as an Advance Trainee in RACP Training
- AHPRA-Registered Medical Practitioner
- Accredited trainee positions as designated through the Royal Australasian College of Physicians Knowledge
- Knowledge level appropriate to an advanced trainee of the Royal Australasian College of Physicians
