Job Summary

  • Incremental progression based on 12 months continuous service.
  • Full-time appointment on a fixed term basis until 30 June 2028.
  • Base salary range: $104243 $115661 p.a. (pro-rata) plus 17% superannuation.

About the area

The University of Western Australia is a research-intensive institution with goals that include supporting influential research and the training of students and staff in the relevant skills. Its research and development infrastructure is key to supporting these that context the CMCA is the Universitys microscopy characterisation and analysis core facility. Its goal is to facilitate and provide research excellence through a focus on world-class facilities matched with expertise and a concept-to-publication user pathway to meet the characterisation requirements of researchers and industry through excellence in training measurement and analysis.

The centre comprises 30 academic research technical and administrative staff supporting an exceptionally diverse range of instrument platforms including electron microscopy and microanalysis secondary ion mass spectrometry scanning probe microscopy X-ray microscopy nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy mass spectrometry cytometry and optical microscopy. The CMCA operates on three main sites and supports research in all areas particularly in engineering science and health.

About the opportunity

  • Deliver support in optical microscopy for staff students and external stakeholders.
  • Provide training and advice across all aspects of advanced microscopy workflows from sample preparation to data analysis.
  • Contribute to broader activities within the optical and multimodal microscopy capability.

About you

  • Relevant tertiary or demonstrated equivalent competency.
  • Excellent knowledge in optical microscopy workflows and their applications within research.
  • Excellent knowledge and technical experience in optical microscopy sample preparation especially confocal microscopy for biological applications.
  • Demonstrated experience in the collection management processing and analysis of optical microscopy datasets especially confocal microscopy for biological applications.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of relevant policies and procedures for the administration of infrastructure and Occupational Health & Safety.
