Licensed dedicated Middle School Physical Education teacher needed at IC Imagine Charter School in Asheville NC.
The teacher is expected to plan implement and evaluate a comprehensive physical education program for Middle School students and prepare experiences designed to fulfill their potential for intellectual emotional physical and social growth. The teacher should also be prepared to provide leadership and coordination as well as facilitate the efficient operation of the physical education program and collaborate with the physical education department and grade level team.
Salary based on IC Imagines Certified/ Licensed Teachers Salary Schedule.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Demonstrate extensive knowledge of Middle School physical education curriculum
- Demonstrate eagerness to collaborate with physical education and grade level team
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners
- Maintain a positive attitude and contribute to the positive school climate
- Plan and implement lesson plans for teaching health and wellness and physical fitness techniques sports playing and living a healthy and active lifestyle that are appropriate for the needs of the students.
- Takes all necessary and reasonable precautions to protect students equipment materials and facilities
- Manage instructional time and student behavior.
- Participate in Standard Based Grading practices
- Collaborate with colleagues and demonstrate cooperation within the school community as well as additional disciplines throughout the school.
- Differentiate instruction to meet the needs of all learners
- Prepare and deliver appropriate instruction for intervention and enrichment groups
- Frequent written communication with parents and families of students.
- Regular and consistent communication with colleagues and administrators.
- Visibly demonstrate the IC Imagine mission throughout the school and greater community in a professional manner with the highest regard for children families and colleagues.
- Manage inventory and repair of instructional resources and equipment
- Coach one or more athletic teams
- Use resources necessary to plan implement and evaluate instructional practices necessary to follow the guidelines of the NC Standards for all courses taught.
- Design instruction appropriate for all students that reflects understanding of relevant content and is based on continuous and appropriate assessment.
- Collaborate with other teachers support staff and the IC Imagine community to enhance the educational opportunities for all students.
- Follow the processes laid out in the faculty handbook respond to emails in a timely manner keep grades updated weekly and correspond regularly with families with pertinent information for courses taught.
- Will perform additional duties including but not limited to supervision during non-instructional time attending after school events and meetings participating in enrollment activities leading and during the Open Enrollment period.
- Adhere to all legal and ethical requirements of the teaching profession and set an example for others to do the same.
Skills and Abilities:
- Knowledge of current physical education instructional methods as well as differentiated instruction based upon student learning styles.
- Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws and regulations regarding education and students as well as relating to health education.
- Knowledge of physiology health and nutrition biology and biological functions anatomy hygiene exercise and best ways to promote physical and mental well-being.
- Ability to effectively manage the classroom and motivate students.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with others contacted in the course of work.
- Skilled in problem solving and decision making as well as observation listening and coaching
- Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
- Maintain a positive attitude calm demeanor and contribute to the positive school climate
- Possess strong time management skills
- Ability to prioritize workload adapt to changes in routine or plans and multitask in a busy environment
- Proficiency with GSuite
Education and Experience:
- Minimum Bachelors Degree preferably in physical education
- Valid North Carolina teaching license
- 1 year teaching experience preferred
Physical Requirements:
- Ability to join and participate in physical activity
- Ability to demonstrate physical activities which include a variety of sports
- Must be able to perform athletic and physical activity for prolonged periods of time without breaks
- Able to maintain physical and mental stamina for extended periods of time
- Must be able to physically keep up with students aged 5-12 years old to ensure they are participating in classroom activities
- Ability to perform job duties in a variety of spaces including but not limited to classroom spaces a portion of the gymnasium and outside
- Must be able to bend stoop stand kneel squat sit on the floor climb stairs walk and reach overhead for prolonged periods of time
- Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds to shoulder height and 50 pounds to waist height as well as carry push pull or otherwise move objects.
