We are seeking a detail-oriented and driven Estimator to join our Major Projects team. This role is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial diving and marine construction projects. The Estimator will collaborate internally with project managers engineers and field personnel to ensure estimates reflect project scope schedule and risk. The estimator will correspond externally with clients to confirm scope schedule and approach and will also seek out vendors and suppliers for accurate quotes and pricing information.
Key Responsibilities
- Analyze project scope plans specifications and related documents to determine scope and cost.
- Prepare detailed cost estimates including labor materials equipment and subcontractor pricing.
- Conduct quantity take-offs and develop pricing strategies.
- Attend pre-bid meetings and site visits to assess project conditions and logistics.
- Solicit and evaluate subcontractor and supplier quotes.
- Collaborate with operations and engineering teams to determine means methods and production rates.
- Prepare present and engage in bid reviews as an active participant.
- Identify and communicate project risks and opportunities.
- Preparing scope letters and proposals.
- Assist in the transition from successful bids to active projects including budget setup schedule input and contract review.
- Maintain historical cost data and contribute to continuous improvement of estimating processes.
- Identify new bid opportunities through client relationships and bid sites.
- Follow up with clients for results and feedback after bidding has closed.
Qualifications
- Required:
- 1-8 years of experience in construction estimating or operations preferably in commercial diving marine or heavy civil sectors.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and estimating software (e.g. HCSS HeavyBid).
- Strong understanding of construction methods materials and industry standards.
- Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and specifications.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Valid drivers license and ability to travel to project sites including secure/government/military sites.
- An initiative-taking approach to problem solving.
- Able to manage multiple projects concurrently with the ability to multitask
- Able to shift priorities as schedules and bid deadlines change
- Must be able to work independently as well as with a team to produce accurate estimates in a timely manner.
- Preferred:
- Bachelors degree in Construction Management Civil Engineering or related field.
- Experience with HCSS Primavera and Bluebeam.
- Familiarity with public and private sector bidding processes.
- Field experience in commercial diving or marine environments.
