Insurance Claims Counsel In-House Opportunity
Position Overview
ProspectBlue is working with a recognized leader in the Excess & Surplus (E&S) lines insurance industry to hire a Claims Counsel for their in-office claims team located in Richmond Virginia.
Well-qualified candidates will have a background in insurance coverage related to professional liability matters (such as legal and/or medical malpractice employment practices directors and officers liability matters etc.) and/or bodily injury insurance claims. The Claims Counsel will conduct investigations and manage the claims process to determine liability and negotiate claims though resolution. The Claims Counsel will work with outside defense counsel and potentially attend mediations to facilitate settlements.
Candidates looking to enter the insurance field are also encouraged to apply as our client will provide training for new hires. This position is on-site in Richmond Virginia and there will not be any remote or hybrid work schedule opportunities. This position offers the opportunity to work closely with senior claims leadership to drive sound claims outcomes and support overall business objectives.
Key Responsibilities
- Evaluate and manage claims from inception to resolution.
- Analyze insurance coverage and provide recommendations on coverage positions.
- Direct and oversee outside defense counsel experts and adjusters as appropriate.
- Drive litigation toward resolution and resolve claims in a fair timely and cost-effective manner.
- Communicate effectively with insureds and internal stakeholders
Qualifications
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school is required.
- Active law license in at least one U.S. jurisdiction (in good standing) is required.
- Our client prefers 2 years of experience in insurance coverage insurance claims handling or litigation (E&S experience preferred but not required). Candidates looking to gain experience in the insurance field are also encouraged to apply.
- Excellent analytical negotiation and communication skills (written and oral).
- Microsoft Office products skills required (Word Outlook Excel PowerPoint).
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced collaborative in-office environment.
