Calling all experts in public relations social media management and other communications fields! Our team is excited to announce we are hiring for a seasonedSocial Media & Outreach Communications Manager (Communications Consultant 5)!

Please note: Expected work schedule is 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday but some evening and weekend work may be required. An alternative work schedule and hybrid telework may be authorized based on mission requirements. Travel is required and is typically local or regional to include State Veterans Homes and military installations within Washington state.

*This position has been posted within the assigned pay range through Step L. Step M has not been published as this is considered the longevity step in alignment with state HR compensation rules.

As a national leader in our advocacy for nearly 500000 Veterans and their family members we strive to connect them to earned benefits as well as innovative programs focused on their overall health and addition we provide critical community services through a variety of programs and at our four State Veterans Homes located in Orting Port Orchard Spokane and Walla Walla. These locations provide Medicare and Medicaid nursing home care to Veterans including in some instances their spouses widows or Gold Star Families.

As theSocial Media & Outreach Communications Manager you will utilize your mastery of high-level communications to manage the agencys online and social media presence relating to educating the Veterans Community Veteran resource providers and the public on eligibility for Veteran programs and services in Washington state. Critical to your role is consulting with executive management and program managers to design develop and deliver statewide strategic public information across multiple social media platforms while communicating to external audiences about Veteran programs services and other crucial information for the Veteran community in our state.

Duties

Some of what youll be doing:
  • Planning coordinating and directing social media presence among all agency programs.
  • Developing and coordinating agency social media policy procedures and activities.
  • Advising all levels of leadership managers and team members on social media policy and practice.
  • Analyzing public understanding of laws around the Definition of Veteran WDVA programs and determining the need and type of information/educational programs required.
  • Planning coordinating and directing complex social media outreach and public engagement.
  • Directing original WDVA content and key messages.
  • Planning and controlling strategies for follower growth and engagement specifically targeting public interaction on issues.
  • Ensuring social media and website language are consistent to leverage the Web as an important communications venue.
  • Planning organizing and directing public relations program for WDVA education and training provided to Veterans and families.
  • Developing and managing complex public information strategies allowing Veteran service providers to understand changes and access information related to the Definition of Veteran Revised Code of Washington (RCW).
  • Working on a variety of digital projects including video social media and other digital content requiring cross-agency collaboration.

Qualifications

Required:
  • Expertise in social media platforms tools and analytics.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite InDesign Publisher Adobe Creative Pro Suite and Canva.
  • Proficiency in the use of social media tools such as Hootsuite to communicate complex information to a mass audience.
  • Strong commitment to diversity equity and inclusion practices.
  • Four (4) years of professional experience in social media journalism or public relations to include:
    • Experience in:
      • A social media manager or similar role in public information public relations or journalism.
      • Cultivating community groups to become advocates.
      • Writing technical materials and marketing materials.
    • Knowledge of:
      • Methods and techniques of evaluating effectiveness of public relations programs.
      • Social media etiquette strategy and optimization including best practice for use of social media platforms such as Facebook X Instagram LinkedIn YouTube etc.
      • Basic skills in data visualization and graphic design.
    • Ability to:
      • Advise top management officials regarding program impact upon public and organize prepare and present comprehensive public information and educational programs utilizing mass news media.
      • Organize workload to meet numerous deadlines while managing multiple and competing priorities in a fast-paced environment.
      • Write and speak effectively.
      • Proofread and apply appropriate grammar while utilizing strong attention to detail.

Preferred/Desired:

  • Working knowledge of content management systems such as Drupal.
  • Ability to update web content.

Special Requirements:

  • Must be able to pass a DSHS BCCU Background Check prior to beginning services and every two (2) years in accordance with WDVA Policy 615.000 Background Checks. Information from the background check will not necessarily preclude employment but will be considered in determining the applicants suitability and competence to perform in the position.
  • Must become familiar and comply with all DVA policies and procedures and Collective Bargaining Agreements as applicable.
  • In an emergency employees may be asked to stay for an extended period of time and perform duties appropriate to the situation.
  • Must have a valid drivers license.
  • Candidates who are offered a job with WDVA must possess work authorization which does not require sponsorship by the employer for a visa now or in the future.
