In collaboration with the Laboratory Senior Director and under the medical direction of a qualified pathologist (MD) the laboratory manager is responsible for the administrative operation of the laboratories; assisting with or maintenance of all policies procedures and quality control practices; the management and supervision of the laboratory technical clerical and environmental staff; the administration of the department budget; and the maintenance of effective physician and inter/intradepartmental relations.
The Manager works collaboratively with and is a peer to the managers of Baystate Medical Center core lab clinical and anatomic pathology laboratories to meet system objectives and the needs of laboratory clients and their patients.
The Manager has the following responsibilities: direct oversight of the community hospital assigned to including direct supervision of the technical lead staff and phlebotomists that may be at the site. This Manager may serve as the General Supervisor for testing performed on site.
The incumbent is a member of the Clinical Services team and the BH Laboratory Leadership team. Incumbent reports to the Senior Director Laboratory Services. Reporting directly to the incumbent may be supervisors clinical section leads technologists technicians phlebotomists lab assistants and clerical staff in their respective area(s).
At the direction of the BH Senior Laboratory Director develop and prepare goals and objectives which support the BH mission principles and goals.
Coordinate department orientation with new employees. Assist and/or conduct employee performance appraisals and payroll. Assist and/or conduct employee performance appraisals and payroll. Assist and/or perform corrective actions as needed with employees. Oversee department QA programs. Uses critical thinking skills and independent judgment to make departmental decisions.
