The Department of Theatre and Dance in the School of Arts Media & Communication atTexas A&M UniversityCorpus Christi (TAMUCC)invites applications for a9-month tenure-track Assistant Professor of Theatre (Lighting and Sound Design)beginningFall 2026. We seek an innovative and collaborative designer-educator with demonstrated excellence inlighting design sound design and related technical areasto join a dynamic faculty. The successful candidate will teach undergraduate courses in lighting sound stagecraft and related areas; mentor student designers and technicians; design for departmental productions; and engage in ongoing creative and/or scholarly work.

Faculty at TAMUCC are expected to maintain active professional and creative activity/scholarly research demonstrate excellence in teaching contribute to departmental school and university service and support the universitys mission as aHispanic and Minority Serving Doctoral Research Institutiondedicated to community engagement.

TheDepartment of Theatre and Danceat Texas A&M UniversityCorpus Christi is a vibrant student-centered program offering aBachelor of Arts in Theatrewith concentrations in Acting/Directing Design/Technology as well as minors in Theatre and Dance. The department producesfive mainstage theatre productions three dance concerts and numerous student-led projects annually. Faculty collaborate with a full-time technical staff professional guest artists and student crews. TAMUCC is anaccredited institutional member of the National Association of Schools of Theatre (NAST).

Construction is currently underway for anew music/theatre/dance complex opening inFall 2026 which will provide state-of-the-art performance and teaching spaces.

Primary Responsibilities

  • Teach undergraduate courses inLighting DesignSound DesignStagecraft and related topics in theBA in Theatrecurriculum.
  • Design lighting and/or sound foruniversity mainstage productions.
  • Supervise and mentorstudent designers and techniciansin all phases of production.
  • Contribute tocurricular development program assessment and recruitment of Theatre majors and minors.
  • Maintain anactive record of professional creative work and/or researchconsistent with promotion and tenure expectations.
  • Participate indepartmental school and university service including committee work and community engagement initiatives.

Required Qualifications

  • Terminal degree in Theatre Design or related theatrical field by the time of appointment is required.
  • Demonstratedprofessional excellencein lighting and/or sound design.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in industry communication practices and network/software applications including Nemetscheks Vectorworks Spotlight Figure 53s Qlab ETC/EOS applications Dante Controller wireless microphone system managers Lightwrite and lighting previsualization software.
  • Demonstrated strong organizational and time management skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • College-level teaching experience inLighting Sound and Technical Theatrecourses.
  • Experience withdigital technologiesfor live performance includingprojections media servers or interactive systems.
  • Dante certification (level 2 or above).
  • Yamaha audio console proficiency.
  • Evidence ofcollaborative creative activityin professional or academic settings.

$6888.89 Monthly ($62000 annual)
