Why Your Role Matters

The Genuine Student (GS) Assessment Team Leader is responsible the Genuine Student (GS) status assessment of international applicants fromidentifiedhigh-risk source countries.

The role ensures that assessments are consistent compliant andtimely supporting the Universitys international recruitment strategy while safeguarding its compliance with the ESOS Act National Code and Department of Home Affairs guidelines. The position works closely with key internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure high quality defensibledecision-makingand an excellent applicant experience.

The role reports to the Admissions Support Manager and has no direct reports.

Main responsibilities Summary

  • Oversee the end-to-end GS assessment process in line withESOSAct National Code and Department of Home Affairs guidelines.
  • Supervising daily and long-term team workload ensuring fair and consistent decision-making aligned with university policy and regulatory requirements
  • Managing escalated and complex student cases in collaboration with the Admissions Support Manager
  • Acting as the key contact for internal stakeholdersregardingGS risk strategies and decision-making
  • Leading training initiatives for staff on GS assessment visa policy changes and fraud detection
  • Contributing tosystem and process enhancements such as developing templates workflows and reporting dashboards.
  • Ensuring all documentation and decisions are auditable and compliant with University TEQSA and Home Affairs standards
  • Representingthe Admissions team in meetings and working groups both internally and externally
  • Compiling and presenting reports to support strategic planning and operational efficiency

Who You Are

We are looking for someone who is aligned with UNSWs vision and values and comes with:

  • Substantial experience in international admissions compliance visa processing or a related field within the higher education or international education sector
  • Deep understanding of the Genuine Student (GS) framework student visa subclass 500 requirements and associated legislative and regulatory obligations ( Act National Code)
  • High-level analytical and decision-making skills including the ability to interpret complex information and assess riskin accordance withpolicy
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with an ability to engage diplomatically with diverse stakeholders including agents prospective students and academic staff
  • Proven ability to contribute to business process improvement policy development and system enhancement initiatives
  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to data quality and regulatory compliance
  • Proficiencyin student management and admissions systems and confidence with data analysis tools
  • Understanding of geopolitical risk factors and regional nuances in high-risk countries for international student recruitment
  • Previousexperience in case assessment or fraud prevention
  • Familiarity with university-level strategicinternationalisationobjectivesand how GS processes align

The role will work on a hybrid basis Monday to Friday business hours. Work during the end of theyearUNSW shutdown period and some key weekends during peak periods will berequired.
