JOB TITLE: Anticipated English Learner (EL) Teacher (1.0 FTE)Department: Building Job Group: Bargaining UnitFLSA STATUS: ExemptLocation: School-BasedUPDATED:Work Year: School YearPOSITION OBJECTIVES: To provide instruction services support and monitoring to assigned EL students to help provide equitable access to educational opportunities and a successful educational experience. EL teachers focus on meeting the needs of all students in the program in becoming proficient in the English language and adjusting to the school and community EL teacher creates organizes and implements meaningful and engaging lessons/instructional programs for diverse groups of students in a school learning environment that guides and encourages students to develop and fulfill their full EL teacher prepares course materials and designs lessons that cover all aspects of the English language whether written or verbal. They keep track of student progress and customize individualized plans for students with special requirements. They are also responsible for creating positive class EL teacher works with teachers and students to facilitate access to course materials and lessons in a wide variety of formats. They will consult collaborate and co-teach so that teachers will better understand how to acquire evaluate and use information and technology needed to support EL EL teacher:promotes enthusiasm for growth and developmentadhere to state curriculum standardscollects and reports on correct and detailed records of student performancecreates and maintains a safe and respectful learning environmentcreates a relationship of mutual trust and respect with students from all backgrounds and abilitiesorganizes learning activities to make learning an easy and meaningful process for EL studentscultivates the students interest in education and supports student self-advocacy throughout the learning and development processSTUDENT ASSIGNMENT: English ROLES and FUNCTIONS: The following duties and responsibilities are required as part of the job. Other duties may be assigned. Planning & PreparationAssists in the selection of books equipment other instructional and the alignment of curriculum with state standards; creates lesson plans; prepares classroom and course materials; approves translation services. Creates EL service plans for assigned students including whether students receive push-in pull-out or co-teaching and co-planning with the content teacher with multiple teams to support a successful transition of the student from grade to grade and school to coordinates and effectively utilizes available school and community resources and outside agencies to ensure proper delivery of students EL service plan. Selects designs and/or modifies classroom services (including learning activities instructional groupings lesson plans educational materials curricula assessments teaching strategies and the like) for assigned students designed to promote the academic physical and social development needs of students adhering to accommodations as appropriate. Collaborates with other members of the staff to determine student EnvironmentCreates and maintains an environment of respect and rapport within the preschool classrooms in the district and on home visits. Engages children and families in learning through play organization of events and by providing resources in their native language and serves all children on their general caseload using the concepts of age-appropriate childhood development collaborating with mainstream teachers and utilizing best practices for English Learners with the goal of supporting their students in experiencing equitable access to high-quality core resolve crises in the classroomCollaborate with educational staff to create and provide a supportive and positive learning experience and classroom environment. InstructionEffectively provides academic instruction social skills training and other direct services to assigned students to develop the readiness skills necessary for success in future school appropriate classroom activities/educational materials to effectively engage students in learning and to maximize student comprehension of the lesson; including implementation of instructional groupings schedule of activities behavioral management techniques peer support and the like. Accurately assesses the effectiveness of classroom services (including learning activities instructional groupings lesson plans educational materials curricula assessments teaching strategies and the like) to make sure instructional goals of assigned students are being met; and persistently seeks thoughtful alternative approaches/resources to improve student learning. Uses knowledge of effective written verbal nonverbal and visual communication techniques to foster active inquiry collaboration and supportive interaction in the a variety of EL instructional strategies including technology to encourage students development of critical thinking problem solving and performance collaboratively with classroom teachers to make accommodations and modifications to -teaches with other classroom teachers to provide support in a full inclusion central concepts methods of inquiry and structures of the discipline to create learning experiences with content meaningful to all students. Researches new teaching methods for teaching English as a second languageAssessmentCoordinates and implements regularly scheduled community-based screenings that will properly identify children who may need a more comprehensive potential EL students for inclusion in the program using identified screeners Administers ACCESS tests and screeners and uses ACCESS scores to determine when a student needs to receive to establish and maintain open lines of communication with students parents and colleagues concerning both the academic and behavioral progress of all effective timely and quality feedback on student progress to parents students and other professionals as needed or required. Confers with parents school counselors classroom teachers social workers administrators testing specialists and other professionals as needed to determine proper assessment tools and procedures and to discuss evaluation results.
