The School of Music at the University of South Florida is searching for an innovative creative and collaborative trumpet teacher to teach both classical and jazz trumpet students. This is a pivotal position for the School of Music as we continue to reimagine what it is to be a music school in the 21st Century that regularly embraces collaborative events across the Arts. This is a 9-month full-time tenure track position. The successful candidate in line with the performance expectations of an R1/AAU institution will contribute to the research teaching and service missions of the University of South Florida. Anticipated start date is August 2026 or earlier depending on the availability of the successful candidate and the needs of the school.
As the creative center of the University of South Florida the College of Design Art & Performance provides an enriched creative and professional environment for tomorrows leaders in architecture design art art history dance music and theatre. The college is home to the universitys arts district Contemporary Art Museum Graphicstudio and the Florida Center for Community Design. Duties: The Assistant Professor of classical and jazz trumpet will maintain a high-profile career as a trumpet performer in accordance with research/creative activity expectations for tenure at USF. They will mentor students for diverse musical careers. They will design build promote and recruit for a high quality and innovative studio for undergraduate and graduate students and also teach varied ensembles/combos/chamber groups and related classes. They will actively collaborate across the local/regional/national/international community and engage in the School of Music College of Design Art and Performance and the University of South Florida as they contribute to committees meetings auditions and recruitment activities.

Minimum Qualifications: The candidate must hold a terminal degree in music (PhD DMA etc.) or equivalent professional experience in the field. The candidate must document prior experience as an outstanding trumpet performer in both classical and jazz genres as well as previous teaching experience at the University level that involved both classical and jazz genres and the candidate must present evidence of on-going engagement in professional activities that demonstrated creative performance.
Preferred Qualifications: The ideal candidate can also document programing that innovates and redefines trumpet performance and experience recruiting high quality undergraduate and graduate trumpet students.
