Resident Genetic Counsellor

Pay

HK$37590 to HK$60488 (HGPS Point 15 to 25) per month including Monthly Allowance

Up to 15% of total basic salary (after deducting the contribution of Mandatory Provident Fund by Hospital Authority) as end-of-contract gratuity may be offered to contract staff upon completion of the contract subject to satisfactory performance.

Key Responsibilities

I. Primary Function

To provide pre- and post-test genetic counselling services to patients and/or family members; offer daily operation & administrative support to the Hong Kong Genome project in Hong Kong Childrens Hospital as well as perform other duties as assigned by supervisors.

II. Key Result Areas / Job Description

1. Build rapport and obtain informed consent.

2. Risk assessment based on medical and family history.

3. Identify and arrange tests.

4. Discuss psychosocial impact and promote adaptation.

5. General and special referral to clinical care.

Entry Requirements

Professional qualification in genetic counselling or related professions such as nurse social worker psychologist medical laboratory technologist biomedical scientist or equivalent.

Preferred Attributes/Exposure

1. Relevant qualification knowledge and experience in clinical practice of genetic counselling.

2. Fluency in written/ spoken Chinese and English.

3. Strong interpersonal and communication skills to effectively interact with patients and their families.
