The Position:

The Campus Guard is responsible for providing support and securityservices to the campus buildings and grounds to ensure safety and security forstudentsstaff parents and visitors. Front line greeting of all visitorsincluding strict access control and operation of sign-in process. Provision of telephone reception services tocallers as required.

The Guard will ensure the protection of property persons andinformation at the School. The guard must be proactive in their approach totheir duties primarily by forming and maintaining a strong professional andcordial relationship with the students staff parents and visitors.

As a front-line essential staff member of the School the Guardwill be required to assess emerging or occurring situations manage them andnotify School leadership where required. This may include police/fire callsdangerous persons on campuswater leaks utilities disruption mechanicalfailures parking infractions etc.

Specific Accountabilities:

The Campus Security Guard is expected to carry out the followingduties:

  • Monitor security systems includingCCTV access control intercom and intrusion alarms.
  • Perform security patrols of theproperty and buildings.
  • Investigate and act on anysuspicious persons or events on the property.
  • Keep detailed and accurate reportsof the routine and non-routine events attended to during their shift.
  • Monitor and control of the parkingof vehicles on the property including traffic control during student pick upand drop off.
  • Program and issue proximity cardsincluding maintaining the database of all users.
  • Greet visitors and enforce accesscontrol to monitor the occupancy of the building.
  • Provide security for on campusevents.
  • Must have the ability to performCPR First aid and trained in the use of an Automated External Defibrillator(AED).
  • Be versed with crisis managementprotocols and manage emergency situation until first responders arrive.
  • Assist visitors staff andstudents with their enquiries and make necessary contacts within the school ontheir behalf.
  • Provide occasional assistance tothe maintenance staff with setups and takedown of rooms for events includingA/V equipment.
  • All other duties which may berequested by management.

QualificationsKnowledge and Experience

  • Hold a valid Security Licenseunder the Provincial Private Investigators and Security Guards Act.
  • Must be able to participate inphysically interactive self-defense training.
  • Experience with MS-Officedatabase maintenance & security system operation.
  • Experience in operational securityprocedures.
  • Ability to make quick decisionsunder pressure.
  • Demonstrated ability to remaincalm in crisis situations.
  • Familiar with the operation ofvarious security devices including but not limited to PTZ cameras electricstrikes mag locks proximity cards and readers.
  • Ability to communicate withstakeholders in person and via radio and telephone.
  • Strong communication and problemsolving skills.

Physical/Psychological Demands

  • Patrolling of the propertyrequiring climbing stairs entering mechanical rooms and traversing theproperty in all weather conditions.
  • Demonstrate ability to use goodjudgment and make decisions under pressure which have the potential to impactthe safety and wellness of the students and employees.
  • Ability to combine authority inchallenging situations with respectful and cordial relationships with guests tothe building.
  • Respect professional boundaries inrelationship with students and staff.
  • Guard must be able to perform inhigh stress situations.
  • Uphold and ensure a safe andsecure workplace for all constituents.
  • Required to wear securityprotective gear including fully arrayed duty belt and body armor vest.
  • Occasional lifting and carrying ofitems up to 50lbs i.e. tables furniture etc.

General Requirements

  • Team player with excellentinterpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Good communication skills able todeal directly with staff students and visitors interpret requests andtranslate into action.
  • Willingness and ability to workrotating shifts including overnight weekends and holidays.
  • Self-motivated with a strongdesire to provide excellent service.
  • Required to wear a uniformprovided by the School at all times when on duty.
